While shopping, I asked myself, "How would I feel about an Evo if next year Kia releases something even faster?" And suddenly I realized I loved what the Evo could DO more than the Evo itself. It's performance IS the car. It's still a fun car, but I wasn't in love with it. It would have been more of a trophy to me... it appealed to my ego. It made me feel superior, better-than.
The 8 is special. Every review, every article struggles to put into words what makes it so good. It's not about what it can DO, it's about how it FEELS. You can't measure it, you can't brag about it... but you can enjoy it. The goodness of the 8 stands alone, it's not dependent upon being faster than other cars. To me, that kind of enjoyment was a much safer bet.

BUT (there's always a but) the reason why the Evo is so great isn't because you can just talk about what it does, you can actually DO IT. Have you driven an Evo? I have driven both many times, and I can tell you- the Evo FEELS great to drive.
It's not just good on paper- it's really that good. I know the RX has a great feeling that can't be put into words. it's all about making that linear power with NO vibration or hashness. It's just smooth as silk.
BUT (there's that but again) the Evo has an amazing shifter, awesome brakes, and acceleration that pins you to the seat. It feels amazing. I don't know if you've driven it before, but if you're into cars, you'll get it.
The Evo has you SO connected to the car. You think the RX handles great in curves and eats up tarmac effortlessly in all situations? You're right, but the Evo destroys the RX in all those categories.
The thing is, it's just not luxurious enough. But if I want luxury, i'll get a luxury sedan. If I want sportscar performance, with the ability to still hold my friends and gear, play my music, be stick shift, be AWD so I can even drive in snow and rain, and get great fuel economy, and have an amazing warranty, and recaro seats, and 270-some lb of torque, and be ready to get HUGE HP gains from aftermarket parts, and still look pretty damn good in the process.... what am i saying?
I need to get the Evo. I've sold myself.
I'll keep ya posted.

Here's a pic: Can somebody photoshop a 911, a Ferrari, an NSX, an M3, and maybe an RX8, S2000, 350Z and a C5 corvette in the background?

Keep in mind that the "amazing warranty" could be meaningless in, say a year or two, when Mitsubishi Motors goes Chapter 11. ![Wink](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
But from everything else you said it sounds like the Evo is the better car for you.

Evo isn't on my short list because of reliability concerns. I'd take the STi over it any day. I think I'd take an RX-8 over the STi as well, because it's just more grown-up.

I'll be the mature dude in the tinted Evo without the wing. You'll notice the wing isn't there as I disappear ahead of you in the twisties!!!
Just messing with you, guys. Oh, I doubt Mitsubishi will be Chapter 11 any time soon. Same was said about Nissan a few years ago... Mitsubishi will be around for a long time. And we all know that the Evo has been tested throughout the years in Europe. I'm not too worried about maintaining it.

I think the WRX STI is amazing. I test drove it and LOVED it. Torque monster. But everybody knows the Evo wins the STI vs EVO battle.
haha It's right there with the Evo, man, I just think it's got a very ugly bodystyle.
What's the car at the end of this RX-8 video????

I don't know why the link is broken... it worked for me yesterday when I tested it. Today it's not working. Anyway...
The STi is ugly! That hood scoop is big and obnoxious (albeit functional) and the rims are garbage looking. The pink and gold crap has to go. Pink and gold??!! The covered area on the front bumper where it looks like a big foglight should go is just idiotic looking.
The headlights are very gay looking- not agressive at all. But I like the inside of the STi.
The interior makes the Evo's look like it was thrown together in 5 minutes with spare parts from an '89 Tercel- but the car isn't about a cool looking interior.
Bottom line: Every reputable reviewer of these two cars sees that the STi understeers and the Evo doesn't. Understeer blows.
I can live with the RAW goodness of the Evo everyday. My Spyder is loud, unrefined, harsh, stiff, and impracticle as hell as my daily driver- yet I love it. the Evo is just way faster with 4 doors.

This same question has been asked atleast 20 times. If all you want is a fast as hell car that looks like a 12,000 econo box with a large wing and crappy interior get the Evo. If you are going to go to the race track and get all its worth out of it it is a great car. My buddy has one and belive me when the speed gets old and you replace the tires at 800.00 in 7,500 miles and pay a few tickets you be sick of the car. The performance is great it just happens to be wrapped in one ugly *** shell.

I drove the STI for a few hours and I couldn't convince myself.
EVO has write "riceee me" all over it...
Driving the RX8 last night through the mountains made it ALL WORTH IT!!!
I am so glad I went this route...

Now if you're trying to say that a lightweight, mid-engine, rear-wheel drive car in black is gay, then you're just clueless.
About the speed getting old... I think being slow gets older a LOT quicker than being fast. Think about it, Merlin.

I just can't believe an MR2 spyder driver called an STi gay... I wouldn't call it gay simply because that's a word that my 16 year old nephew uses to describe things, not me. I would however call it a chick car, and maybe even the biggest chick car on the road, regardless of it being mid engine RWD. Also, calling BBS wheels grabage looking is mind boggling to me. And FYI it's not pink it's cherry blossom red :p
