Mine had a few more miles than yours (37500) and they gave me 24,750 for it. Well that is good news 24,750 would make me happy....What model and factory options did you have ie. Gt apperence package........

Good news: The insurance should pay the current "retail" price (not private purchase or trade-in price) for a comparable RX-8. Used '04 GT MTs typically price out between $22,000 and $25,000, so you should be whole. Hopefully you still have the receipts for the mods which you can pass on to the insurance adjustor.
Alstate said they would not pay for my mods but i could remove anything that was savagable.....and i am hoping for the 25k...

Altbaby, look into a lawyer if you havent already, not to sue but to rather CYA if you know what I mean. My chiropractor told me bluntly "Even after your done with me you'll still feel the pain for well over a year" for my injury atleast. As someone said you might want to contact your Mazda Dealership and tell them you where in a Major Accident and your car is a lost AND the airbags didnt deploy at all!! Oh and take tons of pictures at every angle, I must of taken over 30 photo's of my totaled trucks front.
Mine did not deploy either and it was a KO as well. (2004 model)

when you go to court ask for a summary judgement against her.. then you can hunt her down and garner her wages and freeze and seize any of her bank accounts.

I had a 2004 GT totaled due to a garage fire. Car was absolutely mint with $10k miles and $3K in aftermarket addons. Got $25,200 plus sales tax in 12/2005 on the total loss and the ins co would not budge. No provision for aftermarket mods at all (called them preference items). I filed a complaint with NYS Ins Dept and got no satisfaction.

They used an average of the NADA Blue Book retail (at something over $27k that I thought was reasonable) and a Red Book value that was under $24k. What pissed me off the most was that the Red Book is not something accessilble to consumers - basically a subscription valuation guide for insurance co's that want to rip off the policyholders.

Good luck.

Actually $25,200 is not a bad retail price for a low mileage '04 GT back around the first of the year. I can understand the aftermarket mods not being covered (I assume there is specific language in your Auto policy about not covering this).

Did you try getting the $3K in mods covered under your homeowner's policy? They were part of the house contents lost in the garage fire.

That may be your only recourse if your insurance doesn't give you enough to cover the car. Though it sounds like it may cover it, so you'll be okay.

And this sounds preachy, but you should always put down enough on a car that you're not going to be upside down on it- even if you've got GAP insurance, what happens when your car up and dies and you still owe $5k on it? Everyone hopes that won't happen, but it does, a lot. Insurance isn't going to cover that, and you'll be stuck with $5k in payments, and no car.

21k sounds like a very good deal for an 04, given that until about a month ago people were walking off lots with brand-new '05s for 22-25k. Forget about the mods - just see if you can persuade the insurance co / wrecking yard to let you have some time alone with the car to remove the pieces, so you can attach them to your new 8

Damn, $25k for a used 04? That sounds like a blessing to me, considering i just got a new 05 GT for less than that (before tax, titles, fees, and wheel warranties).

Right now I owe $7 more than my car is valued at, at least according to the credit union I got my loan through.

Tried to go down that road. Advised vehicles and their contents are exclusions from homeowners coverage and if the vehicle was not insured it would not have been covered at all.

They did agree to cover my car cover as it was outside the vehicle!

I discussed with another insurance agent and an attorney who both advised SOP.

I didn't think it was that bad, just really didn't like the use of Red Book at a value so far below other valuation guides for retail values.

Thx

Cool!!! I never knew that. Aren't insurance companies great!

So if my garage burns, afterwards I need to go into the wreckage of my 8 and pull out what is left of the Ipod, laptop, cell phone, GPS, etc. and lean them up against the outside of the car like I was intending to take them inside but forgot about them.

you only paid 21,500 for the car, youve had it for a year, and your payoff is 21520? How does that work out?

And you got an extra 4Grand from the ins company that is a sweet little down payment on a new car they just handed you.

i love the way credit works...those who need it the most cat get it, and if you do you bleed on your financing rate...those that can show they have money and dont really need it can get it no sweat. what a scam.

yeah it's " look you are at risk for not making your payments so we'll jack the rate to 5 times what a normal person would pay so you can buy it". planned failure.
