Angry Tough Love

My manufacturers warranty expired Dec 3 2008....shorty after that I noticed my MPG has dropped a little less than the norm. Dec 29th I noticed the engine light was on....may I add this is the 4th time it has come on within the year. The obvious issues I noticed was at idle....the engine would drop to 750rpm and back to 1000. I felt less power above 4 rpm and was slower to go above 4000 rpm. I took it to the dealership. The next day the service advisor called to let me know the diagnosis according to the codes. According to the codes I was told the O2 sensor is faulty, ignition coil is faulty, the spark plug wire needs to be replaced and my motor mounts needs to be replaced costing me 775. I have no choice but to get it fixed....I have a 04 low 30,0000 Velocity Red 6MT w/ clear corners, velocity red fender strakes, with navigation. I love this car but daaaamn. This is tough love!!!!! Almost wanna go and get the Nissan 370....very frustrated.....

dang sorry to hear about that. but then again, it was probably time for a tune up which you could of done your self for 250-300. and every car needs a tune up at higher miles. as for motor mount , sorry to hear about that one.

Personally...I would think that some of those codes are related. For example if you have a bad coil you may get a code about a faulty wire because of lack of spark which would mess up your O2 sensor. And a motor mount is just silly really. I'd do the coil, wires and plugs yourself and see what comes of it. Just to confirm my thoughts though I would post/move it over in the Tech Garage.

ha! I had the same thing happen to me and I changed the plugs and wires myself for a little over 150 bucks I think and that solved most of the issues.

My car still vibrates at idle however.

Wait a second....they are charging you 775 bucks, and you want to trade in your car and get a brand new one and pay MORE money?...

I'm confused.

I would replace the coils, plugs, and plug wires first.
Easy to do and much cheaper if you do it yourself.
PM Charles R. Hill for a good deal.

I also say replace plugs/wires/coils and see what happens.....do not pay for the dealer to do it either do it yourself of take it to an aftermarket garge to have it done!

You dont even need to do that. I took my tail light assembly off and put a ring of caulk on the old gasket then screwed them back on. This was 3 months ago and they fogged every time it rained. Haven't fogged since.

$775 is not a bad price for a fix. You can cut that down if you do all the work but the motor mounts

Well got my 8 back today....she runs great! All of the issues I mentioned above deleted. Yeah, I thought about taking it to a aftermarket garage and having it done or doing it myself. I dont trust the mechs here in Miami....at least if the dealership screws up my ride at least they are held accountable vs some Joe Schmo here in Miami. Who has no ideas about a rotary....Hey thanks all for the replies.....BTW will take my ride issues to Tech garage...lol. HAPPY NEW YEAR PEEPS!!!!!

Agreed. It's always good to, while owning a Rotary, be able to fix some of these things yourself. You will save yourself a **** ton of money in the long run.
