Town North in Dallas tried to rip me off

They asked for a $5000 dollar deposit non-refundable for a RX-8. Guess I will be driving to another city.

I don't know if it's Town North or all dealerships. Town North has tried to screw me several times. There is a Mazda dealership in Denton that has been pretty good to me. They are small though, and they don't tend to have much as far as parts when it comes to the Rx-7. I think all the dealerships are going to try and rape the consumer just like Honda did with the S2000. It's something new, and we are starving for new, so they are going to make us beg. (with cash that is)

I would have no problem with the $5k deposit if it guaranteed MSRP sticker price in writing. Big Billy Barrett is a "Mazda Elite" dealer and will most likely be one of the first dealers to receive the production RX-8, and more than just a few also.

The dealers will try to take advantage of the initial demand for the car. I plan to wait until the screaming dies down before walking into the showroom with my checkbook. As much as I like the car I see no reason to get bent over on the deal. Waiting a little bit can save thousands

I had the same problem when I was looking for my S2000. I stumbled upon a dealership in Victoria who was selling for MSRP. If you are serious about buying an RX-8, try the small towns who are willing to sell without the huge markup. The dealers in Houston ranged from 3-10k over MSRP during the S2000's first year.
