Traded in the 8 for a Civic

Well folks I just found the rotary engine to impractical....no low end torque and the gas mileage just sucks for a 1.3 liter. Also I was tired of getting taken off of the straight line by basically every car after 1995 out there. The civic is cheap and gets me over 30 mpg. Plus there was a recall....my engine was ok and so was everyone I knew...but still talk about reliability issues. Im tired of shifting as well in the city so my civic (which is an automatic is perfect).

I do admit the styling of the 8 was pretty cool, but it wasn't enough to make me want to keep it. I mean the problems I had were rediculous!!! My driver side visor broke once last summer when I left the car outside in the Texas heat for 4 days straight and I had the most annoying rattle coming from the cupholder area...later realized it was my can in there rattling, but still....mazda fix that...its a cup holder it shouldn't rattle!!

I don't know after waiting 4 years for the car to have a single change worth mentioning or a mazdaspeed version i've finally given up hope. The 8 was a good car for what it was...an overpriced pile of shiat. Mazda get your act together and i'll be back....I didn't think things could get worse than my R1 RX7 ...but I was wrong...

im just kiddddinnnnggg....but thats how rediculous these threads are getting.......damnit know about the car before you buy it....your hurting true rotary lovers residual values

Dtorre for President in 08' I WILL BRING THE ROTARY TO THE PEOPLE!!!

So... why make another, even as a joke. And you created an article that could easily show up in a search and the reader could likely never read the last line that says, "this is a joke Ha... ha..."

Btw, I do find that I'm often left behind at stop lights unless I do some revving, but then people think I'm racing them and begin redlining their engines while I'm hitting 4k.

Maybe thats what some of the folks you are poking fun at are trying to do here in this forum. When you drop $30,000 to $35,000 on something you should have a good idea going in you will be happy with it. Thats a lot of money for most people. Lucky this board is here so non-RX owners can chat with RX owners. No need to ridicule people....even if your attempt was humorous

"Die".....I must be an old fart, this "hostility" I just don't get. Over a type of engine. But for the record I am the one posting info on this board about using hydrogen to up the MPG and help SAVE the rotary from the economics of gasoline. If you want to contribute something positive also please do.

dtorre, why are you such an idiot? Its not just me who thinks the Rotary needs hydrogen, its MAZDA! Mazda developed the first hydrogen rotary engine vehicle, the HR-X, in 1991! And have developed several other hydrogen powered engines since. AND in August 2006 started leasing a commercial RX8 that runs on either gasoline or hydrogen. Here is one of many articles on it:

http://www.renewableenergyaccess.com...=45622&src=rss

Type "RX-8 + hydrogen" into your search engine and see how fun it is to learn....and remember, I said "search engine", dont try type that into your RX-8 engine, it won't work.

Right.

Write us a short dissertation explain where all the hydrogen fuel that would be necessary to even SUPPLEMENT, not replace gasoline is going to come from. How are you going to get the hydrogen refueling station innfrastructure started? How are you going to deal with all of the oil interests in the US and Japan? How are you going to carry the fuel? How are you going to make the fuel tank affordable? HOw are you going to carry ENOUGH fuel... the lower energy content of hydrogen requires one to burn more to do similar work to gasoline powered.

You could also try search the General Automotive forum and RX-8 news forum for more info on this topic which has been discussed before.

Swoope for president.

The Hydrogen isn't very efficient,

meaning it is expensive to produce unless utilizing solar power to get the energy. Then that brings in the cost for the panels and maintenance on keeping it up...

Storage for the hydrogen is expensive.

It needs a lot of storage because it burns quickly.

What happens if the vehicle is in an accident and a tank explodes?
If it is used as a supplement then it gives catalyst to the combustable.

Transporting and dispensing (how to fill a tank) is another issue.
Have you ever had a pressurized tank filled? A service station attendant has always been the one to fill my propane tanks. My paintball gun tank is always filled by the salesperson at the paintball shops. Would we all have to learn how to fill the pressurized tanks? How often would they have to be re-certified that they can hold said pressure?

I've read part of JeffNY's thread. So far, the only interesting link is to a company that currently offers bolt on hydrogen solutions for trucks. The hydrogen obtained from using electrolysis on water as the car drives.

JeffNY however, does seem to think that there aren't many good reasons why hydrogen isn't used today. And also doesn't seem to know that hydrogen probably wont become the fuel of tomorrow.

Dude, 1) you're new, and 2) you're behind the times. We've discussed hydrogen here before. People have been working on the hydrogen engine much longer than you realize - it's not the panacea some people make it out to be, and it's doubtful it ever will be.

Might as well talk a little about why synthetic oil is bad for the Renesis. Oh and pull a little recall discussion in here.

Then dtorre can rename this the worst thread for the 8 ever.

Has anyone, that had their engine replaced, gotten to take pictures of the exhaust ports closing off because of running synthetic?

Nah - if they used synthetic it invalidated their warranty anyway.
