a new 2008 Dodge Caliber SRT4!
can you say 285hp?
So my birthday was on Nov 8. I went to a local Cars and Coffee event in the morning. I was already feeling the new car itch before that. So I stopped by a few dealers on the way home and ended up taking home my new srt4. here are a few pics from the even that day. mine is the black one on the end. I have some parts for sale, soon to be listed. Also one last shot of the old ride and one new shot of the srt4. color? black of course.

You asked for our opinion and you recieved it, some more blunt than others.
If the 285 horsepower is your favorite part about the car than the RX8 wasnt right for you and I understand why you would have gotten rid of it. However you must understand that going from a sports coupe with sexy curvy lines to a hatch as bulky and as boxy as the Calibur is a pretty extreme transition and somewhat unorthodox and would startle 8 owners.
So once again, if you like it, thats all that matters. Congrats and Good luck.

Sure can! However, 50 extra crank horsepower is not worth it to me. But hey, like pretty much all of us have said, its your car. IF you like it than who cares.

Let the record show that I NEVER asked for anyone's opinions. I do appreciate them good or bad, but i dont really care what they are. I just find it hard to believe that any true car enthusiasts can look at the SRT4 and not see potential. To each his own. I just think there are a lot of 8 owners, who own the 8 just to "look/feel cool" rather than for the love of automobiles.
Let the record also show that 285hp was never stated to be my "favorite part."
I just found it laughable that nobody had even come close to discussing HP in 3 pages of a thread.
I do understand and expect the flaming from people here, and dont really mind. But, if you are so closed minded and stuck on Mazda RX8's to see potential in a car that in some areas out performs your own vehicle than maybe you should re-evaluate why you own your 8.

No one mentioned horsepower because typical 8 owners arent focused so much on horsepower rather than performance overall including handling, braking, driving feel, etc. YOu as an ex-8 owner should know that. TO most of us here, 50 horsepower isnt worth sacraficing the rest of a cars attributes.
I personally understand why you did it, more room for the dog, better practicality, more power. SOme of those things arent important to others however.

Okay? So if you didnt want opinions than what was the purpose of this thread?

Furthermore I am proud of my new purchase and wanted to share. In no way am I saying that my new car is better. It simply meets my needs. I do agree with most, as i mentioned before, that the CSRT4 does not handle as well as the 8, but neither did any of my past vehicles (89 CRX SI, 97 Integra RS, 1994 C4 Vette)
The 8 handles better than just about any car on the road, hands down. Clearly, handling was not why I purchased the CSRT4. Handling and the clunky shifting are 2 of the first issues i plan to address... You know they do make aftermarket parts for vehicles other than the 8.

purpose of the thread was simply to let my friends and local 8 owners know why i may not be around at meets or why i am not responding to the emails.

damn i was just looking at the pics above with your rx8 then the caliber and it reminds me of like when a celebrity gets plastic surgery or something and it goes wrong i dunno this sounds too insulting...its not ugly just far leap from the 8...a wagon sti would of been my choice

It looks like everyone is bashing you because everyone thinks the same. I love my rx8 and I am in no hurry to get rid of it.
However I can also tell you that I like the caliber as well. Especially the nice glove box ice cooler that you get with it. Nice vehicle to go tailgating.
I think its a very pratical car and I also think it has the torque that our 8 lacks in stock form.
Maybe it the value your not explaining right.
Did you buy it a good price?
Perhaps its enough to justify why you bought it. Heck I would buy it for the right price.
To answer most of the bashing about your Caliber its simple:
1. Spend money on suspension and you will be closer to the handling you get with the 8. Now it all depends how much you spend and it might never be as good as our 8.
2. It seems everyone thinks the car is ugly, but the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you want to spice the car up a little bit I have seen some nice body kits for the Caliber.
3. Power? I think you have more than enough for a station wagon.
Now would I trade my 8 for a Caliber? Never! But I would own one WITH my 8 for the same reasons you did in terms of praticallity and having more BROADS!!!
Cheers and Congrats!

I don't believe people are bashing you because you traded in your rx-8 for another car. People were wondering why a caliber srt4 when the Mazdaspeed3 is far superior. I bet if it was the speed3 as some have did in the past, you wouldn't get the WTF response as you are getting now.
