Exclamation Traded this thing in!

Well I got tired of seeing all the engine trouble these things give. I traded my 8 in for a 2005 Toyota Tacoma. They gave me 24,750 for my car. Great for trade so I jumped on it. Good luck on all of your cars. I hope you can enjoy them without the replacement of your engine.

Sorry you had a problem car; I've got 36k miles on mine without a single problem with the engine.

Good luck with your new one.

Tired? Didn't you get your 8 less than a month ago?

It looks like you got your 8 in mid-September. You traded it in in less than a month because of what you read on this board? hmmmmmmmmmm

If ernurse went from an RX-8 to an S2000 or a WRX or Eclipse, I would say the post was valid, but to a Toyota Pickup truck - nah! ernurse obviously wanted (or needed) a truck in the first place, and realized the RX-8 is not a truck! - lol

yep sounds realistic. especially going from a sports car to a truck?? please...you did the RX8 world a favor if you gave your car up after a month because less than 1% of the RX8 owners had their engines replaced.

we won't miss you.

Come December, he'll trade the Tacoma in because it's too slow.

Good. Hopefully the car will go to a rotary enthusiast. For anyone who would part with their 8 is surely not one.

Why is it that when someone decides to trade in the 8 they feel the need to announce it to everyone?

Because they are trolls or they are from other boards who don't like the 8 so they try to give it a bad name.

Actually I just thought I would say thanks for all the helpful info. There is no need in being rude and talking bad about anyone. I simply just wanted to say goodbye to what I thought was a friendly group of people. I guess I misread you all.

people are understandably frustrated because there are actually very few 8's that needed their engine replaced, especially when you take into account all the 8's around the globe. I think there were about 6 forum members that had to get it done (i could have the wrong number here). This is probably right in line with other vehicles. I am sure if you get on the Tacoma forums there will be stories of engine replacements there, too. Problems seem greater on a forum than they actually are. It seems that you got a little rattled and had a reaction that was probably unwarranted. If this engine was so fragile, then there's no way that guys would be pushing 13 psi, 400HP, detonating, and still having an engine to play with! But, its happening! This is actually a very durable motor. We just wish that you had taken the time to look into it a little deeper and perhaps ask some questions of some of the forum member who have been around a little bit more than you. That would probably have resulted in you enjoying your 8, trouble free, for years to come, like the vast majority of 8 owners will.

cheers,
MD

i think if he had many problems its a very valid reason to trade it in. if my engine had to get replaced and i had tons of problems id probably try to get rid of it as well... when it happens to you then u get a diff perspective on it. of course if my rx8 started crappin out id go to an s2000

You are mistaken. He never had any problems of his own. He got scared because he was reading posts of OTHER PEOPLE'S problems. I even searched all his old posts (all 12 of them ). Never reported any problems of his own, whatsoever...

No matter how a good a car is made.. there are gonna be a few bad eggs in the bunch...

If my 8 engine blew.. np.. i get a new one free under warranty...

big deal... in fact you should try to kill it before your 5 yr warranty is up.. cuz then you can have a new one for another 5 years... just hope you're successful.. heh...

s2k.... ew

Di you get an Xrunner? I considered one of those... until I saw it in person. Toyota really needs to start paying European desing firms again. Those wheel arches combined with the grill hedious. And I was a bit surprised that a base Xrunner was almost RX-8 priced.

Ahhh, but I love trucks- work trucks. I had a Tunrda btw. A 3.4 V6 auto Tundra. I get much better fuel economy in my hard driving RX-8 than I got in the 2wd Tundra (I was getting 12mpg tanks before I traded it). Oh, and the Tundra was on its third heater control module (just from slipped cables- but they must replace the whole thing when this happens), on its second bumper (peeling paint), and the tranny was starting to make some odd noises (just 20k miles when traded).
I think Toyota makes some very solid vehicles, but I also think all Japanese vehicles were more durable in the 80s. I learned to work on cars with my 84 Celica GTS notch back coupe. That was a great car. Now, I think Hondas and Toyotas are over rated and riding on people still buzzing from owning 15-20 year old economy cars that still run.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy your Taco. I know I sounded a bit down on it, but it is a very good truck compared to the competition now- when you look at MSRP.

(I need a work truck, and now have an 88 F-150 300 six five speed now. I forced myself to drive trucks for daily drivers for years- to calm myself down after wrecking several cars)

Pefectly put MadDog.
I also believe that the some of the replacements were questionable.

I would have traded for the Nissan PU because it has a really cool commercial with a funky soundtrack. :p
