Transmission fluid

Hi, guys

I just hit 29,000 miles and had my dealer change my transmission oil.
As soon as I drove off the lot, I noticed that shifting is harder and not as smooth as my previous stock fluid.
I checked my receipt and looks like they used Motorcraft 75w90 which is indicated for their Ford 4x4 vehicles. Dealer is Ford/Mazda

Should I be concerned about my transmission and contact the dealer? Should I give more time? Am I just being ****?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I had a similar thing happen to me, seems to be an issue with certain GL-5 fluids. Happened in my RX-7 too as a solution I picked up GL-4 fluid and Syncro-Mesh (normally for GM vehicles I believe) and found that it cleans up the shifting beautifully. Soon as the rain stops up here I am putting that mix in the 8 and can let everyone know how that goes.

I thought that 75-90 or 80-90 is what we were supposed to use?

Yeah it has to be a GL4 , GL5 eats away the synchros. I think its made of copper thats why. I think a safe bet is to buy the MT-90 from redline (its a 75w-90 GL4) , for the differential u can use a GL5 fluid i believe...

Ya when the shop did mine, they put GL-5 in because that's what the computers say to use. So watch out.

I use Honda's new updated S2000 transmission fluid.

Works so mutch better than Mazdas, no more harsh changing to 2 gear and reverse.

+1 they should use GL4 and it should be instantly noticeable if it's right or not. Bring it back and tell them to please use the Mazda OEM GL4 transmission fluid not the Ford 4x4 stuff.

Motorcraft has two 75W90 GL4 fluids, one synthetic, one not. They do also make a 75W90 axle lubricant which is GL5.

More information needed... and BTW, it wouldn't surprise me if the non-synthetic Motorcraft 75W90 GL4 came in your car from the dealer.

Good to know and very possible, but the shfiting should definitely not be worse if the put in the same GL4 as before. GL5 will make the shifting harder and possibly hurt his transmission.

I thought the factory fill was a straight 90? I know they previously specced a straight 90 weight before it was amended to 75W90 being acceptable since straight 90s are very rare. In my opinion, my slightly crunchy 1-2 shift when cold is because I am using 75W90. I just shift slowly while the car is still warming up.

By the way, this is in the wrong section and we've already got many threads about this.

My transmission dip stick appeared milky with a dark oil, is this normal or could the coolant be leaking into my transmission? does anyone have any information about this? rx8 04

transmission dipstick?
you have an auto? or you mistaken it with engine oil which is indeed brown and can be milky if moisture in the engine.

I've had major issues with fluids in my MT, with fluid meeting the spec. I recommend Redline MT90 fluid.

Curious to hear additional comments on this.
