At Transmission Problem

At Transmission Problem
When I drive my AT in manual mode, there is a lag when I shift from 1st to 2nd.
Also, when coming to a stop in 3rd, it should reset to 1st but sometimes only resets to 2nd and shifts roughly.
Has anyone else experinece this or how to correct ?

Haven't had a lag yet when going from 1st to 2nd, that's the best shift for me. 2nd to 3rd though is strange sometimes however, if I keep the gas pedal too far in, the engine will suddenly rev up a bit on its own during the shift. So I have to release the gas a bit going from 2nd to 3rd to keep it smooth. I've also had the problem with it going from 3rd to 2nd when coming to a stop, it's a nasty harsh downshift that feels very wrong. I currently have 27,000 miles on my '04.

I noticed the "lag" if I shift into second at lower RPM's. As far as the automatic down shift; mine does that too but only when the engine/trans is cold. I think both issues are normal.

haha I was just kidding for all u that think i was serious...haha....the only not smart *** comment i can reccommend is take it tothe dealer and have them look at it....also check your ATF if it is low could def cause some problems

use the paddle shifters = no lag (or at least a lot less)

C'mon there's no reason to turn this into an MT vs AT thread. Anyone who says they don't each have their advantages would be lying.
As for the question, I've gotta go with the guy who says use the paddle shifters for downshifting when you're coming to a stop. I think it should help what you're describing.

the lag is built into the auto trans...mazda has done it to all their rotary/auto combos for some reason. especially when shifting at WOT in the higher rpms, you will notice it sort of slips into gear rather than grab. There are mods that can be done to auto transmissions to make them grab a little harder, which is actually BETTER for the longevity of the trans than the slip shifts. But, letting them slip into gear is more comfortable for the driver and passengers, and also slightly safer since the rear wheels are less likely to break traction in the wet or a sharp turn.

My 03-model does the same when AT oil is still not up to temp. You have to upshift at 5000rpm to ensure it changes by 7000rpm
My intended solution is to change the AT oil for a top quality synthetic oil.
REason is to increase the hydraulic properties of the oil & thus allow for better shifts thanks to a higher pressure.
Give it a try & gain some lost power too. Top grade synthetic trans oil prevents drivetrain losses by up to 5%. Meaning you get a 5% gain at the rear wheels.
Castrol web site quote......... Transmax Z has outstanding cold flow properties for responsive and smoother gear change at all ambient temperatures and load conditions. Transmax Z has outstanding high temperature performance with premium oxidative and thermal stability. This provides excellent transmission cleanliness and durability permitting extended drain intervals and decreased servicing. The optimized frictional characteristics found in Castrol Transmax Z can contribute to improved fuel economy, reduced power loss and lower operating temperatures.

Don't confuse triptronic with manual transmission or insult manual drivers by associating your auto with a mt. Triptronic sucks, not just mazdas take on it, my kia does the exact same thing. Your best bet? Stop pretending you have a MT and leave it on "D".

Well. I suppose if I were you, I'd start with an ATF flush. If you suspect you've got transmission problems the first thing to do is look at the fluids, but your fluids should be fine if you've only got 27,000 miles. OP never mentioned what mileage his car is at.
I've got an MT, but I've always hated the tiptronic cars I've driven, even before I knew how to drive stick. Sure the paddles let you rev the engine up, but it always feels to me that it's a bit smoother to just leave the thing in D.
Is this a problem that recently appeared or has it always been there?

Quit pretending your "cool" or "superior" because you drive a mt cause chances are you don't even know how to drive it... is it a 4p? havent noticed a lag on mine but mine is 6p. Might wanna check with a flush

I don't drive a manual transmission vehicle and upon further inspection of my above comment I believe you will be dumbfounded with your conclusion.

you really need to keep in mind that this is not a race built auto tranny.. It actually kinda sucks to be honest. I have those same things with my car and it never has alarmed me, there not "issues" just things that you get when you buy an automatic
