Did you walk away?
Did your seat airbags deploy...? Doesn't look like it in the photos.
Looks like you had a Mountain Dew Drunk... LOL

Hope you're okay!

I came around a corner a little too fast and hit a small curve which pulled the wheel to the left. Unfortunatly there was a tree about 3 feet away.

I was driving and had a friend in the car. He walked away untouched because he had his seatbelt on. I, on the other hand, wasn't so lucky. They had to bayflight me to tampa from sarasota. Ended up with a broken nose, compound fracture of my right femur, and severe air bag burn. Oh and I lost a toothe to my steering wheel. Spent about 5 days in the hospital and i'm back home now.

How can people drive without their seatbelt on? Obviously the seatbelt bugs them or something, or they just forget. I guess I'm lucky in that, I simply can't stand the idea of being in a moving car and not have my seatbelt on, I feel totally uncomfortable without it on, even if I'm only moving the car to repark it.

Boy, you certainly were lucky to get away relatively OK with the steering wheel relocated to the middle of your car ... I hope you recover completely soon!

You say your friend went unharmed cause he his belt on - were you belted?

As for the car, well it let you get out alive, that's the only important thing here. Apart from the rear spoiler, there seems nothing reusable left. But hey, you live and can get another car!

Is that blood on the airbag I see?
Glad to hear you are okay.
Do you have any idea how fast were going? Just curious for the amount of damage.
I am not liking the crumple pattern here. The bottom crumple zone seems to not go accross the entire car (good for direct head-ons, but not offset head-ons) looks like you could easily lose your legs and break your back. Hopefully you were going at least 70 mph.

I used to not wear a seatbelt (arrogance) till one day I was behind my friends in a different car. They oversteered a corner, overcorrected and 3 were ejected. I held one of them in my arms while he died from internal injuries from the car (Geo Trackers should be %#*% ILLEGAL) rolling over him. The only one with a seatbelt stayed in the car and walked away with a sore shoulder and glass cuts on his face. The other two: broken arms, femur, pelvis, nose, cheek, shoulder and clavicle. Needless to say the belt goes on now.

Not to say dont buckle up....you always should.

But it would have kept him more in the drivers side, possibly making his leg injuries worse (the drivers leg compartment is completely crushed...its scary).

This is a good shot to illustrate how far everything was pushed forward...

The RX8 did a great job keeping him in the car and since both passangers are walking away with relatively minor injuries i'd say the 8 is a very sturdy and safe car.

i'm gonna go out on a limb here & say the tree won...

damn man, hope you feel better soon.

& personally (I don't know from experience) I'm gonna say pretty much any passenger vehicle vs. tree would be a losing proposition for the car.

I hope you have a full recovery and all is well soon. I don't like the fact that the pedals protruded as far back as it did. It could have resulted in leg injuries and possibly restaining him from actually leaving the car. Glad you faired better.

Man that sucks. I lost control of my 8 last month and hit a tree. At 15 mph it did over $12,000 in damage setting off both airbags. Everything but the bags airbox battery tray and radiator. was cosmetic. No frame damage, headlights, etc.

I hope you're ok. It is amazing how far the pedals and dash entered the toebox and pass compartment.
