So i took my car to get an oil change today. Dropeed it off thinking i'd come back in an hour and it would be done. Well, when I got back to pick the car up the service guy told me they had canceled my order. He didnt really know why but he game me a paper that said "Cancelled" on it.

Under description it reads:

"Could not remove plastic skid plate. Nuts Striped"

umm? what does that mean? Should I just take the car to the dealer?

That's probably cause you took your car to BILLY-JIM-BOB-JOE's the air in your tires need rotation and oil change palace.

I don't think they know where the oil pan's drain plug is located. Or maybe it's just that they didn't have a big enough pair of PLIERS to remove the oil drain plug.

Please try to find a place where the workers have more than one tooth per head. :D

I would say that they DEFINITELY don't know where the drain plug is since it is not covered by any kind of plate. It's tucked neatly by the passenger front wheel, and don't tell me that theses guys were going to put in the stock 5-20 oil either. "Multi-Grade, boy what you talkin' 'bout. They make oil outta whales and nuttin' Else!!"

Never take anything there again!

This just reminded me, i know it's kinda off topic (and has been discussed elsewhere), but my oil has been getting that chunky white crap in it now that it's really cold. Even right after an oil change, it only takes a few days to become chunky and thick. This can't be good for the car, suggestions?

Found out there is a recall on it. Guess ishould take it in, although this has been going on for a while, should i be worried that osmething bad has/is happening to my car?

There is no recall on this "problem", and it really isn't a problem. Apparently Mazda has a 'fix" for this issue, but they have not issued a TSB on it to my knowledge. IMO, the "fix" could potentially cause a bigger problem.

Read the many posts that deal with this phenomena and you will realize that it is an annoyance, not a problem. Wipe it off and keep on gettin' on.

 

Never mind, I "mined" and found the oil change DIY ... boy does that look easy.

 

amen. trust no one to change your oil. i've done mine twice now and i only have 2300 miles on mine. the drain plug is easy to find and remove, but requires the car to be raised to torque down the plug. (my torque wrench is not short) the filter, even if it is upside down is easy to remove without making a mess. let the engine sit for 30 mins as suggested and wrap a rag around filter when removing it. it's an easy job, even easier than my bikes.

I never understood 'too lazy to search'...frankly, it's MUCH easier to type "Oil Change" into the search menu, then to type 'too lazy to search'.

Hey, I had the same problem at a quick oil change place. I told them there was no way they needed to take off a skid plate to change the oil. Amazingly, they invited me downstairs (under the car) so they could show me the problem. Well, the problem was that the mechanic was expecting the engine to be farther forward and he thought the oil pan was part of an automatic transmission (I have an MT). I pointed out the oil pan and he was good to go.

 

Well its not that I wouldnt know how to change my oil. I used to tune DSMs all the time so an oil change is no big deal. I am new to RX8s though so that is why I asked the question.

I just dont have much time these days and I was already nearby anyway.

What I want to know is why are the nuts stripped and who stripped them?

BTW, they were probably looking for the oil filter. If you never worked on an 8 it's not in the most obvious or visible location.
