yes pics!

i never have oil running down when I change the oil, i just change it with the engine cold when most of the oil has drained to the pan.

I actually feel my last post was important enough that I've just started a thread based on it in the tech section. I don't think enough people will see it here.

2nd that - it can't get any easier than simply reaching in and removing an empty filter housing from above w/hood open and putting the replacement in. That's how I've done it. Easy as pie. Now we'll be standing on our heads.

RG - let's hope you're right.

I thught the latest flash that comes with the compression test recall was suppose to stop some of the heat related seal and engine failure. Anyone?

housing? as in housing for the omp? If Mazda offers this as an upgrade option, i'm tempted to do it if it's under 1k.

alternate option i can think of is to get the pcm flashed to increase flow... or get the oil injectors rebalanced/changed to have a different spray pattern... but the additional 3rd just makes sense....

I'm assuming Mazda also anticipated the additional oil usage so got a bigger oil pan to offset consumption, They may have noticed the average buyer trend is aware of the needed maintenance... and would rather have to top the oil off vs risk engine damage.... arghh annoying

That was an excellent explaination rotarygod - thanks for explaining everything so well. Things are starting to make sense about the engine problems I've been experiencing... which is a good thing! In my opinion, this is the most exciting thing about the update of the '09's - lights, sterring wheel, etc, just don't compare.

first of all, the oil injectors do not spray, they just dribble; they are basically check valves.

when I said housings I meant rotor housings as in very expensive, pull engine out, fully disassemble, replace rotor housings kinda expensive. the current renesis rotor housings have 2 oil injectors so to have 3 the rotor housing casting is different.

Looks like everything is salt covered - time for a bottom blast wash. For us two injector people - I'm just going to keep dumping ProtekR in the gas.
