Is this true???

the rx-8. high rev engines are harder to drive well off the line than big tq engines . car and driver (or road and track?) found that after quite some miles the rotary was able to push off more power ...their intitial 1/4 mile test was at 14.5....at 40K miles the r-8 was pulling 14.1s....

14.5 --> 14.1 could have just been reaction time

And, yes the low-torque 8 is not the same off the line as a high-torque engine. Harder, not really; just different.

Torque is over-rated.

C and D also listed the 0-60 time new at 6.7 I think and at 40k it was 5.9.

reaction time has nothing to do with your et u can sit at the line for couple secs as long as u dont cross the tree lights your time wont start. reaction only needs to be worried about when u racing someone because that how fast u live after the lights turns green it has nothing to do with your et time at all

My bad, I didn't read properly thought it was a legal drag race. However it could have just been bad launch vs good launch. I think a rolling drag would be more reliable since its easier to duplicate conditions.
