Turbo timer for this car?

Hello,

Thank you for having a great forum, my girlfriend and i are looking at this vehicle.

Has anybody tried using a turbo timer as a fix for the flooding issue? It could be renamed to rotary timer (ooooOOOooo).

Is there another fix? i've read some threads that have rumoured that this was fixed in 2005, but at the dealer, the salesperson wanted to heat up the rx8 before we drove off (probably worried about us stalling it)

Tons of posts regarding this. I also do remember a member or two installing a turbo timer on their NA 8. Or you could just not shutdown the car when cold, or hold the revs at 3k for 10 seconds when shutting down a cold engine. I have also read about bigger batteries and other dealer fixes for colder areas.

this was probably because he knows that people flog cars on test drives, and flogging a car that isn't up to temperature makes baby jesus cry (because baby jesus is an engineer and knows that the rotary housing is made up of different metals that expand at different rates, and if heated up too quickly, like through hard driving, you can crack the oil/water lines that run through the housing).

Bad idea. To make the car continue to run you need to have a coded key near the steering column. Those who install remote starters hide them in the car. This defeats the vehicle immobilizer system. All a thief then needs is to bypass the ignition keyswitch or get a normal cut key.

Stock the car will not start without a coded key near the sensor (in the steering column plastic). The key has to be coded into the PCM (cars computer) by the dealer. This is an antitheft device that works very well.

Just let the car warm up. It's not rocket science!

turbo timers are for lazy people that aren't willing to sit for a minute or 2 and then properly shut down their turbo cars

The only time the engine needs the extra run time is if it is not warmed up. If the Turbo Timer can be used in this situation only, then it can't hurt and may help. No special attention is needed if the engine is fully warmed up and the Turbo Timer would simply waste gas. The Mazda recommended procedure for a short trip is: after starting/moving the car let the engine idle until it reachs operating temp or for 5 minutes, rev to 3K and hold it for 10 seconds, let it return to idle and shut it off.

No absolute fix. There is no conclusive evidence that even the new battery and starter totally eliminates the flooding problem. It is definitely not true that this is fixed in the 2005s.

Correct, due to the low torque the RX-8 is an easy car to stall with an MT. When the engine is cold it is even easier to stall. He probably just didn't want the car to look bad. There are no recommendations from Mazda about warming the car up before normal driving.
