Turn off LED display?

Hi guys,
I just got a new RX8 yesterday and am loving almost everything about it except for one thing that I really just do not like. The LED display that shows the clock, outside temperature etc, above the radio looks pretty bad. It looks like it belongs in a car from the 80's not the 2000's.

Anyway I was wondering if there is an easy way to just turn off the display entirely without having to take the dash apart and disconnect the power to the display?

If I ultimately do have to go that route, does anyone know if there would be any negative consequences to having the display disabled?

I tried searching for an answer but couldn't come up with anything.

Thanks!

PS - I love this car.

There is a cable plugged into the back of the stereo that controls the display. If you unplug it the display will not light. However, you are going to loose some things that may be important like knowing what blower setting (Face, Feet, Defrost) you are on.

The day you're going to want to know specific information you're going to be without it and want it back.

Buy a Nav Sat so it can take your mind off it.....and before you know it you want know its there.

you'll also lose the knowledge of what radio frequency you are tuned in on.

but you could just take some plastic and cut it to fit, stick it in there. and then glue it (or do some other method of stickyness) and keep it in place there.

youll lose the ability to see radio, cd, temp, AC settings, etc.. it would be stupid to turn it off.

I dont think it is that stupid. I plan on getting an aux port so I can use my ipod while driving. I wear a watch, never listen to the radio, and dont care about the outside temp. Not knowing the vent settings is the only downside that I can see, but there are only 3 possibilities....

I'm going to give it a few weeks to see if i can get past the ghettoness of the LED display.

I haven't seen anyone actually come out and say that they like the look of the display...

I like it. It's simple and to the point, and it's red.

Just like my helmet (minus the red?)

EDIT: To the OP, I've seen aftermarket mods for touchscreen replacements and such. Have you ever thought about something like that?

I mean something kind of like this as an overall replacement:

http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...1_117_full.jpg

You can find this guys full cardomain page here: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2207791/1

He was a member of these boards though I don't know if he still is. I figured you could get an idea from it and if he's still around you could always ask him about it.

I should also note that while this guys car is pretty over the top I've seen a few other 8's that have done a black gloss center console with touchscreens, many that look nicer than the above bit. If I run across any other examples or even where to purchase I'll put it up.

Also, one of the forum vendors may even sell it.

Why not just turn it off?
To turn on/off, push the button that says
AMB
located to the far right on the same line/level as CD/FM/ etc, audio selection

Hey I found that by searching on the online owners manual.

AMB only turns on/off the ambient temperature portion of the display. Holding it down switches between farenheight and celsius. Man you had me excited for a moment there
