No.
One of the many discussions of this myth - this one from 2003.....

rofl!!
ok laughing time is over.
son, let me ask you an honest question that me and some of my "mates" that i have shown this thread to want to ask you....have you been living under a rock?
if such a thing were true, do you not think that everyone upon purchasing their 8 would right away turn it off in an attempt to even slow down this notoriously gas-guzzling machine even a little?!
and next is the logic behind this statement: how could you possibly imagine in your wildest dreams that turning off something electronic in the car that deals with stability have anything to do with fuel consumption?!?!
a DSC Off button that doubles as an instant-gas saver!!! what'll they think off next?!
PM me for a brief 101 on the basic workings of cars, son

My my, must be someones time of the month.
I thought it was a ligit question. Dsc does controls how much power goes to the wheels no? On my Acura I believe it contols wheel spin by appling the breaks and limiting acceleration. So it stands to reason you could gain a wee bit of mpg with it turned off. Hey, it's just a guess, I never had a car before with anything other than ABS.
Hey, Steverothery. You in Europe yet?

Mike06,
There was some discussion a couple of years ago, on this board, that turning off the DSC may in fact improve milleage. We decided it was a myth. So, the original posts are not that crazy.
You have been warned previously about your rudeness. Don't start up again.

So basically cars without DSC will die, I learned how to drive in my old S14, which had no ABS, no DSC, nothing and I drove it in pouring rain, on the freeway, and up to its top speed on occasion (not on a freeway) and it handled great. People don't NEED DSC to survive, and if they do that just shows people's driving skill is just getting worse and worse due to all of these electronic counter-measures. But yes, it is good against stupid driving, but if you know what you're doing I don't see how it will kill you.
Have no idea about the MPG though.
Sorry if I seem hard headed, but I just don't see how people can't live without DSC.

LOL, stupid drivers is little extreme . I like the DSC/tCS option when just driving from a-b, and ABS is beneficial in all road conditions except probably dry were locking your brakes can be usefull. (Rally drivers excluded).
But yeah, it does hamper the cars performance when driving at your limits, on the flipside it lets people easy into finding out what there cars limits are. I don't think 'everybody' here tracks their car on the weekends, but also appreciate the cars design, and performance vs value. Only other car i saw on the market that was comparative was an is-300... I don't know of another 4door rwd car out on the market that's in the same power/weight ratio.
I do hope the DSC gets revised though.. it gets pretty jerky if the back end comes out if you haven't tested it yet. Drifting can still be done with the DSC off and TCS on.
Getting back on track to the thread. anybody want to do a test? Pacific Raceway in Seattle has an event coming up in March, and Bremerton Speedway is having a novice day. We could benchmark mpg one way, then with DSC off with a Data logger... in the end it will be the person that drives the smoothes should be the fastest in my guessing...

ahh... caution then with the DSC on in the 40-60mph range.. it will engage the rear abs and modulate to increase traction so oversteer doesn't occur..... i'm not to sure how well this would turn out on a snow day. (east coast represent?) in essence, it almost feels like the ebrake was pulled, throttle is all electronic so that usually gets modulated first...
hah! i had an s13 until i ping-ponged it on 3 walls on the freeway (Black Ice). welcome to the board...

Try turning off the the low and high Dsc. This car can really launch from a dead stop. Will spin tires and fish tail all the way through 1st and most of 2nd. Quite a rush of speed. I know it won't save gas that way. But more fun to drive.

LOL great.
of things to come once State Patrol gets an OBD scanner to get a log dump i'm surprised they haven't already really.... it just makes sense.
