That's funny - I brought my 8 in to take a look at the driver side window, because it's making a ticking sound when rolling up like the motor is going out. This, before the bulletin came out.

I wonder if the car will be able to stop as well as it did with the new pad material. Also, the TSB only mentions pad replacement, are they going to turn our rotors as well if there is warpage.

I don't understand why the power window thing warranted a TSB -- I mean if the window doesn't work, it should be fixed under warranty anyway.

Sweet! I'm going to go autocross the **** out of my RX-8 in October - at least 3 events. Then I'll complain that the brakes are squealing, print off the TSB and go get new pads! EXCELLENT!

I'll be impressed if you go through brakes that quickly. We've done 22k miles, 31 autocross events and 1 track event on the original pads and rotors and they still have 1/3rd of the material remaining.

New owner here, I was wondering if these "bulletins" are akin to recalls? Can you take the car in to have a bulletin repair performed on it the same way you would a recall, or is it something that the techs are just supposed to look for if the vehicle is brought in for some other service, and address the problem then as opposed to specifically bringing the vehicle in to deal with it?

PUR NRG:

Thanks - that's good to know ... it seemed like my last autocrosser (an 85 RX-7) burned through brake pads like they were butter.

Bulletins are not recalls! Recalls are only for safety related items. Even if there is a very sever problem with some manufactures product that is costing them millions of dollars and lost customers they can not do a recall if the problem is not safety related. All manufactures use bulletins to help the dealer diagnose problems and reduce warranty cost while improving customer satisfaction.

If you print the bulletin and bring it to the dealer it will help them understand what you want and will not require them to do their own research. Bulletins are just about instant paid claims for the dealer, so easy. Only a real poor dealer would refuse you coverage when you have a bulletin covering your problem.

Yeah, I took my to dealer about clicking noise from driver window motor and they told me that was normal and they would not fix it. Now I will have to go back and tell them that they were wrong and the customer is always right! :D

Depending on the dealer, this could be a recipe for frustration, but you might just print the bulletin out from the Rosenthal Mazda website - http://www.finishlineperformance.com...cs/04-006.html - and show it to the service manager. A few months ago I printed out the 'M' flash service bulletin and took it in to my dealer (Roger Beasley Mazda here in Austin). The service manager hadn't heard about it, but he read the printout, said "sure," and took care of it that day. I understand, though, that some dealers insist on being difficult.

Don't you have to machine the rotors when you replace the brake pads? I thought you did.

He'll probably say "If it quits working, we'll fix it". After all, the TSB says nothing about noisy windows - just inoperative ones.

Guess we'd better start using the window a lot to accelerate the failure mode before warranty expires

Yes, you should machine (resurface) rotors any time the pads are changed (even new, never used rotors). As you can see by the bulletin, "Additional diagnostic time and rotor machining cannot be claimed for this repair."

I'd make sure you know what they are going to charge for the rotor resurfacing before you have this bulletin done.

I just had the brake work done and it didn't affect the reponsivness or reaction time of the car. The brakes seems to have some sort of blue liquid. I'll post pics later

TSB says they won't warrant turning of rotors. I'd go ahead and pay to have that done if you are getting the new pads.

Don't really have any performance problems, but the squealing does annoy the crap out of me. I know they are free brake pads and service, but does this tsb really help with the squealing? This might not have anything to do with it but how bout the rust after it rains or after a wash? And why don't the rears squeal if pads on f+r are the same?
