Ugh

Replaced my coils last week to get rid of the CEL light. It got rid of it, stopped misfiring. And then randomly today CEL light came on and my exhaust seems louder plus a pretty solid loss of power. So frustrated now, this car seems to be a lemon and as much as I love this thing, the problems are unreal. No clue what to do now besides just take it to Mazda. New engine maybe? :/

hey Zach, sorry to hear you're having issues.
Few quick questions: have you double checked the coils to make sure the wires are plugged in all the way? Are they plugged into the right spots? I know this seems trivial but we must rule out the obvious first. Did your replace the spark plug wires as well? If so, check the connections to the plugs.

2nd: car smell any differently? Sounds like you could have a clogged cat whidch will be covered under emissions warranty.

Do you have any way of pulling the CEL codes? Where are you located?

Just a thought

The exhaust note would change if in limp mode the engine runs rich. Rotary's run rich on limp mode right?

I agree but I'm still going to take that bet. What do I have to lose, and an 8 if I win!

"I'm sorry, but you only have an exhaust leak. We fixed that!"
"Why was there a loss of power?"
"Your butt-dyno was broken. We fixed that under warranty also"

Just brought it to Mazda. The car did smell funny, yes. And yeah i'm kind of leaning towards it being the Cat as well. I was going to ask if that's covered under warranty. That's really good to hear it is. I have 6 days left on my 5year Powertrain Warranty, so i'm glad this happened now. Haha. And I'm still under my emission's warranty, right?

Ok cool. And yes according to the sketchy *** dealer I bought the car from (not Mazda), they changed my plug wires. But who knows. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks for all the help!
