UK Fuel Costs!
A quick question to our American/Canadian cousins, I've just worked out approximately what a US gallon costs in Britain, at the current exchange rate it is:
$4.90 per US gallon (US dollars)
Now would you buy the RX-8 if you had to pay that much, you can see why diesels are rising in popularity in Britain. Oh by the way I've got a black hi-power on order and currently drive a diesel that gets on avg 40mpg (UK gallons), which will probably mean that my fuel bill will increase by about 35%. I hope this car is worth it! At least we don't have to tip everybody 15% for everything in this country.

In quebec ( a province in canada), the gas price is aaround 75 cents a ltire. I don't know what that translated into but it's reasonable compared to europe.
Vehicules should start using other resources apart from petroleum. This resource is becoming impractical and expensive.

Canadian conversion:
1 US gallon = 3.7854118 liters
1 Imperial gallon = 4.54609188 liter
1 US Dollar = $1.33 Canadian
1 Pound (UK Dollar) = $2.21 Canadian
So with those numbers in hand.
0.75cents a liter * 3.7854118 = $2.84 Canadian a US Gallon
OR
0.75 cents a liter * 4.54609188 = $3.41 Canadian per Imperial Gallon
Which equates to:
$2.84 = $2.13 USD per US Gallon
OR
$3.41 = 1.54 Pounds per Imperial Gallon.
So....... what does that tell me? In the UK they are paying DOUBLE what we are paying, as well as the US. As those prices seem to be inline with the US pricing I've seen.
Someone check my math as I did this a few months ago and we were paying about $1 more a gallon then..... I think I did that for 90 cents a liter which is what we were paying in August.
So to put it in perspective, if we had the same fuel cost as the UK it would be about $1.50 canadian per liter here That would mean my monthly gas bill would be $400!
I wouldn't be able to afford the car as I only pay $800 for the car! $400 for gas would be rediculous, I could buy a $25,000 car for that much a month.

Today at the pump in Brisbane I paid AUD 0.80/L for premium (95 octane) fuel. This is equivalent to CAD 0.73/L, USD2.09/US gal or GBP 1.50 Imp. gal. Admittedly, this is mid-week price (prices seem to go up by about 10% near the weekend), and prices are lower in Queensland than in other states.
Around town, I regularly get around 11L/100km, with about 10L/100km on a trip. In my previous ride, I would regularly get around 8L/100km, but let's face it, the RX-8 is a real car.

It really depends on how many miles you drive. I have a short commute, so even when I add in other leisure travel I still only do 8000 miles a year. So the overall fuel cost is manageable, even at UK prices.
On the other hand, if I did over 20,000 miles a year like some people I would not even consider an RX-8 - I'd be driving a turbo-diesel for sure.

I did the buyback because I couldn't deal with a car that got the low MPG of the RX-8. It is a wonderful car in many ways, and I could afford to feed it but I couldn't get past that in my conscience.
