Go drive it and see if your really still in love.
BTW, the sunroof does have the curve with the roofline you mentioned, don't let that be a deciding factor IMO unless you need the headroom.
Get an AFE shifter and a supercat and you'll blow the doors off the GTI in terms of fun factor.

What a nice problem to have! I could be happy with either, though I like the 8 a little better. And don't forget, while guys know and respect the GTI, women LOVE the 8. Oh yes… they love the 8. No woman will ever come up to your GTI and ask what kind of car it is. Not that that matters.

dude, tell me about it... my service experience w/ my local Mazda dealership & MNA has been like being tossed ***-first on a pitchfork and spun around until bleeding to death... they just wanted to sell me a car and don't put any care or thought into taking care of me as a customer after that.
but, i love my 8 too much to let that deter me... i've been driving 30 miles to a different mazda dealership. and, so far i've been getting much better service and care over there. i noticed some of their service advisors actually own rx-8's too. and, they understand our car better.
