My dealer called me again (Nelson Mazda- Nashville, TN) and said my car is on the train to Dallas, where it will get its 'port options', and should be delivered to the dealer 2nd week of July. What I expected, but I was hoping for the first week...
Any news from any other dealers?

Well, I guess that blows my initial prediction on dealership arrival of the 2nd boat load of 8's into California. Guess it's 3rd or 4th week in July for them.

Budaman stated the train is to arrive in Midlothian (Dallas) tomorrow, Thursday 6-26-03. My dealer is only about 10 miles from their but it looks like the same time for all of us if they are holding them.

nod so if they are holding them then we will have to wait 2 weeks, that should be enough time for all ports to receive thema nd install tyhe port options and do the port testing before they are released to the dealer. of course none of this is confirmed by mazda, just my observation. if anybody can confirm or deny this PLEASE DO!!

Yeah, my dealer told me that Mazda said they're going to wait until the trains reach destination before they release the trucks out of Port Hueneme - he said to expect another 2-3 weeks.
He said they refused to explain why, which led his Manager to speculate that there was some issue found that they had to fix on the cars before dellivery to the dealers, kind of like a recall before delivery.
Yikes!!!

I can see them wanting to have dealers in a locality, like city or maybe smaller state, hae the cars at the same time, but makes little sense to try to do that nationwide. Dealers closer to the port will still get them earlier.

whats the point of having our cars just sit there for 2 weeks. its money just sitting there, its time and money.

it keeps looking like the mazda 6 premiere. where on one day all the dealers had a special celebration for the new car. at this point im not surprised if they do the same thing with the 8. they want to make as much of a big deal as possible and this way they can have all kinds of media attention across the nation with a special first day release celebration!

man this is just straight up dumb. who ever gets it first, gets it. its not like we would be taking other peoples cars. these are PRE-ORDERED cars, meaning who ever ordered one, will get one. it makes absolutely no sense to have a couple hundred cars just sitting there for 2 weeks. financially its stupid and common logic says that its stupid. look at the evo, cali got them first then about 2-3 weeks later it reaches the east.
anyways, i really hope that this theory isnt true. but i wouldnt be surprised if it was.

Without exposing my sources, I don't think it is going to be a simultaneous launch. I truly believe that the cars will leave Hueneme soon, but from what I have been told, they haven't yet. I did get the impression (and this is speculation) that the cars that were unloaded from the Pacific Leader (Hueneme and Tacoma) were going to be released at about the same time. The Team from Japan in Tacoma is still looking over the cars and should be done tomorrow. I asked the specific questions about release, I was told they they haven't been told they can release them yet, but that they also haven't been told they can't release them. They are operating under the assumption that once the team from Japan is done here in Tacoma, that they are going to be ready to rock and roll. Since I went down there today, I won't be bothering them again in person until Monday. They said they would e-mail me if there was any significant change to what they have told me so far.

Yeah, that sure makes a bit more sense. Of course, it doesn't make many people happier, but I suppose it makes more sense than having a refit once it got to the ports.

They sure are pumping out the cars though. I see the VINS are in the 5000 to 6000 now.
