Upgraded from the RX-8

So I had an RX-8 last year. I ended up selling it around October of '06 and went carless for about 5 months. Then I went car hunting. Eventually I ended up buying a 2003 BMW M3. I have to say, the RX-8 was great and felt light, but the M3 feels just as agile. Plus I can actually do wicked burnouts all the freaking time while still getting above 18 mpg. Maintenance costs are going to be a b**ch though. Just saying a final farewell to the community here. You guys have been great for all the tips and such when I was getting the mod fever with the 8. Now I'm spending all my time and hard earned cash on the m3forum.net site.

At over 3400lbs the M3 is not agile as the rx-8. I drove an m3 vert. Not impressed. But the coupe is nice!

hehe.

my local friend has a 2005 M3, I don't know much about bmw's, so I don't know how much more or less hp/tq it has than the one you just bought, but I do know the 05 I felt bigger than my 8, had more body roll, and felt slower than my car. Of course mine isn't stock, but it's still far cheaper than what he paid

Good luck keeping the BMW running !

Germans sure knows how to make great cars, but they dont know how to make reliable cars.

I have friends that used to love BMW, it was the 5 something forgot which one, 5-6 years of ownership. the repairs cost him over 10K already. it happens just right after the warranty crap ran out or something. he might be having *bad luck*, but even guys in the shops said German cars suck (reliabilitiy wise)

good lucky buddy.

Well I will be a little more nice and say, congrat's on the Bimmer I hope it is the car for you.
Everyone has to do their thing, I choose a RX8, others go for pistons.
Drop on by after awhile and give an update on the new ride.

the m3 is really a great car all-around, but what kills it for me is that it's just so disgustingly expensive to own- ie purchase price, maintenance, insurance etc. (the 08 is estimated at $65k sticker.) if i had $ to burn i'd definitely get one tho...

Lovely cars, maintainance asside but far too comon around here. I've seen 20+/- in one day, I'm more a fan of the m-coupe.

When I get old, I will probably advance to an M3, but it will be a while yet. The fit and finish of BMW's appear clearly superior to Mazda, but the RX-8 is a better buy and more fun. One other thing: I live in West LA...everybody and their brother owns either an M3 or other BMW. I hate following the crowd or being trendy, so the M3 will be at least 10 years away for me.

The M3 is okay I suppose, but if I had the money I would much prefer the M6 coupe.

Z4 M Coupe > M3. More precise as a sports car. No compromising with a sedan chassis.
The m3 'vert is the an antithesis to what the M is all about. During the test drive, it was rickety and wobbles at every road undulations.

Good luck with repair bills. 11 mpg will look mighty good once you get your first 1k repair bill!

My boss has a 2000 740 in mint condition. That thing cost him 4k in one week. Some special exhaust valve broke and it started smoking like a crack hoar. 1 week and 4k later (naturally they found more items in need of repair) he was standing at my desk crying (figuratively speaking).

I actually like driving my 8 better than driving my Dad's '99 M3 convertible. Of course, when he drives my 8, he says he like the M3 better, but he's just jealous .
