Fast forward to present day...

In all seriousness, people outgrow that stuff eventually. All the 30-something or 40-something people I know would just compliment the 8 and ask how it drove. Not one ever asked "is it faster than xxx" or said "I bet it can't beat xxx." There's always somebody faster, but numbers aren't everything that makes a car enjoyable to own.

Seriously, you could drive a Nissan GT-R, and some ****** with a Kia Spectra will show up on some thread and start talking **** about how a Viper ACS would smoke you.
It's all moot.

lol. that's not too bad. Wait until you see my post with a 07 Camry V6 owner bashing how he's Camry is "sportier" than Rx8 because Camry's 0-60 is faster than RX8.

Just ignore them. It's the car you like that's all matters.

Heh, that guy who said the 8 doesn't handle well clearly doesn't know his *** from his elbow when it comes to going around a corner. I think it's a pretty safe bet that he can be ignored from here on out.
Regardless, children and insecure adults will always have something to say about other cars in order to make themselves feel better about their own purchase. The 8 is slow and quite possibly stupid, my Speed 3 is a FWD econobox and most likely a total ricer chick car - basically anything that they don't own will have some silly flaw that magically outweighs any and all positives. Ignore them and be confident in yourself, it drives the insecure folks insane when they can't drag people down to their level.

Gotta realize that every car has its devotees. While looking for info on how to pull the radio out of my wife's car, I found a whole DIY on how to replace the original gauges with something called "Indiglo." My first reaction was "On a Camry?" But then I remembered how all the hot '55 through '57 Chevies started as family cars. Also remembered friends in the 60s who did small hop-ups on Volkswagens.
It's all fun. Just keep away from the morons who think their flavor of fun means yours can't be any good.

Dealing with haters of your car is something I've had a lot of experience with simply because of the various groups that I've ran around with over the years. When I first bought my RX8 I was hanging out with a bunch of AWD guys in Evos and STI's so they had me on both handling and speed. The cars they drove were much faster...no doubt about it. I never got directly told my car was slow, but it was clear I didn't fit in as easily with the rotary.
Being friends with a guy with a 500whp mustang was probably where it manifested itself the most. Being ganged up on by mustang people telling me that I needed to "get a real car" got old pretty quick. I handled it in my own way but it prompted me to stop making excuses regarding the rotary and it's performance.
The RX8 is a fantastic car hands down. I've had the opportunity to drive a lot of cars and every time I get back in my 8 it's like putting on your favorite jeans or pair of shoes. There's no substitute. The funny thing is the RX8 is the kind of car you have to drive to understand...it's not something you can communicate and people will just understand.

I love the rx8. It has taught me that there is far more to a car then raw acceleration.
This guy I know with a much larger-then-stock turbo on his WRX, along with all the popular mods to match (including cobb ap), told me that he just couldn't get over how the 8 looked.
He said it looked like a mini viper.
I raced his h22a integra and lost..but not by much. And you know what..he still respected my car. I've gotten my share of hate (but 100x more love), but there will always be haters for everything.
Sometimes ill think a chick is a 9 or a 10 and someone I know totally doesn't think the same. Does that mean she isn't attractive? No..cuz the way our brains are wired for attraction is virtually perfect..and instantaneous. It just means she doesn't fit his style, or what he considers cool, or w/e. Same with cars imo..plus a lot of people hate just to hate..............

I found enjoyment in stuff other than mashing the gas getting on the highway, although I enjoy that too from time to time!
