Used '04 Silver - cant decide
I was passing by a local reputable dealer when I saw a silver 5spd '04 8. I stopped and took a quick look to see what the condition was and so on. I could tell right away that the previous owner took amazing care of it, their were no scratches on the body and from what I could tell it was the same on the inside.
I wasnt able to get anymore information about that car till today, I found out that it has 19000 miles, and its going for $17,975 which is way to much and Im pretty sure I cant get the price down. The sales rep didnt know what kind of trim it was (either a T or GT), also he didnt know if it got the new ECU flashes or if their was a problem with the engine (he has to look it up).
So I was just seeing if this is a good deal and if I should pursue it? I was hoping to get a 6spd Sport '05 or '06 but if this is a good buy I may just get it.
Thanks.
(If this needs to be in the purchase, finance section Im sorry. I posted here just so I could gain more attention.)

Thanks for the input guys, still not sure if this is the right 8 for me. The reason why I want to bring down the price is because I just dont want to pay that much for a used car and have something happen to it down the road.

With every car you run the risk of getting a lemon. The 8 is no different. If you are sure the 8 has been taken care of, then why are you worried something will "happen" down the road? Just because the rotary is unique doesn't mean that Mazda doesn't know how to make it. Most N/A rotaries (like the one in the 8) if properly maintained last well past 100k (last longer than piston engines due to less moving parts). Hell, there are guys on here already that are nearing the 100k mark, with no issues to speak of.
Oh, and you do know the 8 has a 50k bumper to bumper warranty and 60k powertrain warranty, don't you? So if something does happen, you're covered.
If you're worried about problems, then you should stay away from all used cars regardless of make and model. Buy a new Kia Spectra....you can find them in your price range under $15k. http://www.kia.com/spectra/index.php

stupid comment. 06 GT new sell for $29 - $35k. Even base models fetch at least $26k. Do some research.

Anyway bottom line I would of been able to buy a brand new 06 GT(without nav) for about $22K.

Proof. Do you think I give a sh*t what you think. I went to the dealer and that is the deal I worked out. If you don't believe....well too bad.
To the OP I suggest you at least call a dealership and ask what an new 06 costs after incentives. I think you will be surprised.

And once again, not having been here for a while, I'm reminded why I don't come here much. Can't we avoid behaving like little boys?
To the OP: If you have so much doubt about this car, you shouldn't buy it. You'll be afraid of it and, the first time something goes wrong -- things go wrong even with $100K cars; ask BMW -- you'll say "I knew it," regret the purchase and hate the car.
It's not worth it. There are some nice used Civics and Corollas out there for people who want "reliability." But you know, even Hondas and Toyotas have problems.
Good luck with your car search.

that 06 has been passed around like a 5 dolla hoe.
it probly has the same oil in it for 2 years now since it was made.
thats why its so cheap, the dealer wants to get rid of it quick

that 06 is a left over, its been at the dealer for probly like a year, its been made for like 2 years, just sitting. not to mention allllllll the people who test drove that thing, and all the cold starts, and early shutoffs.

I always have wondered about people getting high test drive mileage cars from dealers. You know that people did not break it in properly while test driving it.

How to tell the trim level:
No fogs = base
Fogs but no sunroof = Sport
Sunroof but no leather = Touring
Leather but no "Shinka" badges = GT
Shinka badges = Shinka
Since you noticed how clean the car was, you must have noticed the type of upholstery, right?

You got that in Montreal?? The 8's in Canada are more expensive than in the States (even after the conversion to CAD) That's really good then.
