Used RX8's
Anyone here buy their 8 used? Im still debating on whether I should buy a new 05 or a used 04 but im now sure how reliable a used 04 would be considering all the things you need to do to maintain this car. Also, the regional forums have been dead, anyone know a good dealer around Boston? I would like to get an 05 but I don't want to spend more than 26 or 27k.

I have an `04 I bought brand new. After reading this forum for months I'm not convinced of any intrinsic 04 problems. Any `04 you buy should have about half its warrenty left, plus having the latest FLASH updates and all recall work already performed.
As with all cars you're taking two risks - 1) someone is dumping a problem car, 2) you're buying a car that was abused.
If you want to be under $26k you'll either have to get a good deal on a 05 with few options or go used.
I've noticed several posts here by folks who stated they bought used with ~10k to ~20k miles on them. They might all be travelling (or otherwise not logging in) over the holiday, but they exist.

I pre-ordered my 2004 RX-8 so I have a May 2003 build date, one of the earliest to ship to the US. Other than a few issues, identified in Technical Services Bulletins and covered under warranty, I have not had any problems with the vehicle.
From this forum I find the 2005s to be almost identical to well maintained 2004s. I know of no major issue fixed on the 2005 that is not fixable under warranty on a 2004.
Your main sacrifice with a 2004 is giving up the "white" color, the clear washer reservoir tank, the retractable key and the Satellite radio option.

If you wait a few months until after the '06s come out, you will likely be able to pick up a leftover, new '05 RX-8 for just about what you will pay for a used '04 right now. After the '06s reach the dealers lots--probably sometime in February or March--decide what model and features you want, take that list to a dealer and have him/her search the dealers inventories until they find what you want. Doesn't have to be on that dealers lot. They will get it for you.
