Using this for Oil Changes???
Before I bought a RX-8 I used to own a BMW and used this product for doing oil changes... I'm wondering if anyone has tried this product (besides me) and have used it on their RX-8.
I do know it was a life savor and time savor for oil changes. Plus when performing a manual oil change I would get just as much liquid out when using this product...

Let me know what you think..
Thanks,

No matter what you do, you'll only drain about half the old oil in the 8 since the oil coolers and lines hold about 3 quarts. Haven't heard from anyone yet that has drained the coolers.

Beachdog that is good to know, this product feeds down the oil dipstick line, into the oil pan and creates a siphon, which brings the oil up and out of the dipstick line and into this canister. I'm sure the product will work just as good on the 8 as did on my BMW... Thought I would ask and give some other members an insight on this product. For $70.00 you know longer have to jack up the side and deal with the oil drain plug. Just put the car on level ground and start pumping.

The pump that Griots sells is actually made by Pela. I was thinking of getting the pro model since I have 5 cars in my family to perform oil changes on. Check out this sight since they currently have the Pela Pumps on sale. http://www.jerrybleach.com/pelapumps.html
bmillerrx8, how has the pump held up? Is it a quality product in your opinion?

And for the record, do a search before asking a question. I posted about this subject over two years ago. https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tech-garage-22/oil-extractors-work-sort-rx-8-a-10198/

This method has been used for many years for boat engines. They even have a threaded fitting on the dip stick tube.
But I still prefer to use gravity so that the heavy contaminates drain out the bottom. I also can inspect the underside of my 8 for any damage from road junk.

Just got done on the RX-8, came up a little shy to 4 qts; however, the oil level was a bit low to start... I'm going to continue to use this. I love having the oil filter on top of the engine compartment, no longer have to crawl underneath the car.

Just as a side note to oil changes...the past two changes I have used 6 qts to do my oil change. I drain the oil pan, replace the plug and then pour two new quarts in. I let that sit for a few minutes and then drain that. You guys should try it, you will be amazed at how absolutely filthy the oil is that comes out. Put your finger in the stream as it comes out. The old oil that is still in the coolers/piping/engine can be seen quite clearly against the new oil. Even after flushing with two quarts, the oil still wasnt as clean as I would have liked so i am going to do three next time.
Just a thought for you guys (and gals).

http://fumotovalve.com/ I have this valve sitting on my work bench just waiting to be installed on my truck during the next oil change. If it works good draining 15quarts of oil out of my diesel engine, I'll get one for the 8 & 7.

FYI, the adapter is needed on the RX-8, at least it was on my 2004 MT-6sp.

I can reach under the car withough jacking it up. I use those disposable turkey pans, slide it under, drain the oil, then pout it into a plastic cat litter jug and take it to peb-boys.
