Thumbs down Sure Drain

First I will say I love innovation. "Gadets to make life easier," is my motto.

I had a Fram Sure Drain on my previous car an Eagle Vision TSI. My third oil change the valve was stuck open when I unscrewed the protective metal cap it Sure drained hot oil onto my hand.

I took it back and got a second one. which was fine except it drove me nuts keeping the tube in place when screwing it onto the fitting to open the valve. The tube is not really attached it comes off of the fitting when a person keeps the tube in place and screws the hose fitting onto the valve. Again hot oil

That is why I have not gotten the Sure Drain for my 8.

I like the idea of the topside oil change.

Jacking up the car and sliding under it is a big safety issue. How many people a year get crushed under their cars because the jack or jack stands get tipped over. That is not the way I want to go.

Since i have only had my 2005 8 a few days, I am sniffing around this site a lot more!
I am thinking that I will do my first oil change around 3K miles. I plan on using Castrol 5-20, and mayb a Fram filter. Anything else I should be concerned with at that time?

I really like the idea of using the Pela pump for doing an oil change; my dealership gave me four oil changes for $14.95 and the fifth for free. After the fifth oil change I will defiantly look into using that pump. The last time I changed the oil on my Z myself I decided that it would be far easier to just take it to my local shop and have them perform the oil change. This Pela pump will probably change that.

Oil change places will take used oil, usually for free or a small charge.
