Angry Vandalized ! Help, please advise

Help, anybody in the forum, please advise

My car was at the dealership to fix a flat and they had to keep it overnight because the tire manufacturer refused to fix the slow leak. I could not pick up the car for 2 weeks (travelling overseas) and the dealer agreed to garage it.

Before the car was fixed, someone stole the red front seats and tried to pry off the Left Xenon headlight, small dents and scratches around the headlight. The dealer was nice enough to replace the seats with new ones, off another new car, and agrees to fix the headlight with a new one+fender repair (minor).

Other than that the car appears not to have been touched.

What would be your reaction? I feed terribly violated by the darn thieves. How much should I hold the dealer responsible? In reality I feel like selling the car and getting another identical, new car and tell the dealer to eat the difference....(dreaming)

Please tell me your thoughts......

IMO you should be glad they are doing as much as they are. If they were just allowing you to park your car there then they really have little to no liability for damages done. Of course this differs from state to state, but ultimately unless you got a statement in writing that they are liable for the physical security of your car while you were "storing" it there, then you are quite fortunate they are repairing it at all. That's my .02 and I am not a lawyer so take it for what its worth...refer to beginning of last sentence. Good luck.

I take it they didn't "garage it" and just left it parked in the parking lot?

If they agreed to garage it, then they are responsible and they did what they were supposed to do.. fixed it.

Its just minor theft. And it seems they didn't have enough time to get your headlights. Your car is getting fixed, don't complain about that. When people steal your things and or vandalize them it hurts.

was any other car broken into when yours was? did they report it when they found it or did you come to pick it up and that's when it was found?

around that time 3 cars were vandalized, in 2-3 weeks, 2 culprits were caught in the act too, there is a police report but I have not called them yet, they dusted my car for prints, according to the dealer. They'd fixed the seats but missed the headlight, which they've agreed to fix.
Thanks for the feedback guys, I'll keep looking for more replies, but seems like I am getting over the loss.....tears.....

I had a Corvette stolen from the dealer's lot when I took it in for repairs...to make a long story short, the dealer went: "sorry" and my insurance company said: "no problem - they would cover it"

I am still pissed at the dealer. Final outcome of the above story: I found the car, they arrested the dude (and others) who stole it. HOWEVER, while they were out on bail they went and stole the car from the impound lot and sawed it up trying to dispose of the evidence...didn't work...they got arrested again. LOL

Scratch one '78 Indy Pace Car Corvette though.

Bottom line: Sounds like your dealer is trying to do right by you.

I am with everyone who says that your dealer is doing the right thing. Its a shame your car ever got damaged, but a proper fix of the problems the criminals caused should give you no trouble in the future (value or function). As far as agreeing to store it in the first place, that was nice of them. Space seems to be at a premium at most of the dealers I have dealt with. I think they sound like a pretty good shop.
