Vandelized 8 in military base
#26
The fact is that it absolutely sucks that your car was keyed on base, however, it does not matter if everyone speculates on this forum about who did it, the men and women in uniform are still serving the people of this nation day in and day out. There are thousands of our troops overseas right now putting their lives on the line every day to serve us, and there is no reason anyone needs to bad mouth these troops just because of the possibility that one bad apple decided to be a jerk!

(a) you can key cars?
and
(b) you are above criticism if you do?

I had a friend have a car keyed when I was in the Air Force. The SP's came out and took pictures did a report and actually the Base itself paid for the damages to be fixed. So I don't know if you can have the base pay for the damages or at least your deductable.

I was going to mention that as well. It kind of depends, but basically the rule is that when you vehicle is secured on federal property, they have a responsibility to secure it, and as such should pay for the damage. (Example: You can't carry a personal firearm on base to protect yourself, it is the military police's job to protect you while on base.)
I am in the middle east right now, and while I appreciate the kind words astrozoom, the reality is there are knuckleheads in the military just like the rest of the world. I think we are better than average but there are plenty of the bad element as well. The good news is if we catch them, our justice system is pretty nasty!

Kane,
First of all, I wish you a safe tour over there. Where in the Middle East are you at? I did my time in Iraq during the initial invasion and in Afghanistan in 05. Now Im enjoying my Terminal Leave from the Army

Sweet, I miss em both already.
Lets hope no one keys my ride... then it would be on, I am not a small docile dude.
As for the federal property thing, I just talked to my first sgt and he said that yeah, they should pay to get it fixed, just have to fill out the paperwork.

Even the Army has its share of lowlife-dirtbags... Every branch has 'em. I've had foglamps taken right off of my old Integra. I was parked on the pier, about 200 yards from an Aircraft Carrier in broad daylight, at NAS Alameda for about 2 hours.

FYI... some info
The Military Personnel and Civilian Employees’ Claims Act
Quote from Stars and Stripes:
“It is reasonable to store a radio in your wall locker; however, storing a $5,000 stereo system in the wall locker is probably not,” wrote Marine Corps 1st Lt. Adam Workman, a legal services officer then in Iwakuni. “Whether the use or possession was reasonable, useful or proper is a judgment call that will be made by the adjudicating official.”
If all conditions for reimbursement are met, the money given for the damaged or lost property is based on repair estimates, or replacement estimates minus depreciation if repair is impossible. If repairs already have been made, receipts are required.
Filing a government claim
When filing a government claim you will need the following:
* DD Form 1842: Claims for loss of or damage to personal property incident to service.
* DD Form 1844: List of property and claims analysis chart.
* Electronic funds transfer form.
* Photos.
* Two estimates of repair for repairable items.
* Verification of replacement price — original receipts from the BX, catalog or Internet prices, etc.
* Title, military registration and insurance paperwork for all vehicle claims.

Yeah, the chicks dig the shorts though, so it is all good. Plus you never have to worry about tan lines at the beach. Functional and fashionable. :lol

Sorry to say it but you are right! I worked with Army and trained with Navy...I've also worked with prior service from all branches and the Navy guys are always the easiest prey when it comes to jokes! I used to shut one particular Navy guy up with the joke about where their name is on their "dungarees"!

For the record...I only wore Dungarees in Boot. There after, I wore, either, BDUs or black rubber.

Even my socks and skivvies have stencils! How else can the lanudry give you your uniform back? Duh...

Funny that I just passed my 13 year mark as active duty!
