I've had a red 8 for two years now, I've only been pulled over once and no ticket. He thought I was racing the geo metro that was next to me on the highway... at a whopping 83 MPH. I kinda shrugged it off and said I'm just driving. He let me go. I wanted to say something like "are you f'ing kidding me, you think I'm going to race a geo with my 8 and have it be neck and neck??? If I ran out of GAS I would still be a mile ahead of that car! I have no tint, no stickers, nothing fancy, just a nice clean red RX-8 with a spoiler, and they never give me trouble. And it certainly isn't because I stay below the limit!

yeah I hate VR sometimes, wish I had a different color at times, to not be so noticeable...I have 6 points on my license, being registered as a NJ driver, but moved to Delaware, you get pulled over in NJ you get slammed...

1st Offense: 31-25 2 points
2nd Offense: 86-65 4 Points

But life goes on.......

I wouldn't trade my VR for anything, even if I did just get a ticket in it. I deserved it, the cop was right behind me, there was no point of pulling onto a side street and hammering the throttle, unless I wanted to add to the total of my ticket.

Shiny red sports cars seem to get all the real serious scrutiny and attract most of the attention on the road. Not fair, but not my problem either.

(on top of that, as a 33-year-old dad everyone would go, "oh, *there's* a midlife crisis in progress," if I drove a red sports car - blue draws plenty of those comments as it is)

at least youre not getting "how much did your parents pay for that??"

PSH. I bought it and it drives me crazy when people ask me that
(I'm 18.)

My RPMs were high enough to throw the *** out so I counter-steared and pushed in the clutch and rolled up to the next red light. This was the first week I had the car... He let me go with a warning, but you know it sucks when they ask you, "Do you know why I pulled you over?" And you have to say, "Yes sir."

Gotta love the digital speedometer too!

"Do you know how fast you were going"
"Unfortunately"

I am 28 and a father of two; 5yr old daughter and 3yr old boy. They say if you buy a red sport car between 20 and 30 it is the indulgence of youth. If you buy one between 30 and 40 it is a midlife crisis. My opinion... the people saying this are just jealous because they have not ever owned a red sports car. I don't think it matters how old you are because I know that the enjoyment I get out of my red RX-8 is nothing but pure excitement everytime I sit behind the wheel.

I was 24 when my Red RX8 was delivered. Indulgence of youth... I'd buy that. I have no kids, no mortgage, and I enjoy driving the car. I could easily have bought a Mazda 6 and saved a ton of money. But hey, I wanted a sports car.

Ti grey is not known as stealth for nothing.

Had the car since '04. Is tinted and has some discrete 'RX8club.com.au' and 'Hymee' stickers on the rear window. Never been pulled over (even for random breath testing) and have only been caught once by a camera when I was distracted talking to a mate in a strange area and didn't see the sign - 11kms over.

I love 'exhibition of speed' . Does that mean you can say you're a convicted exhibitionist??

Still mostly legal to roar away from the lights over here so long as you step off the loud pedal before you exceed the posted limit and don't do anything silly like smoking the rears or fishtailing.

Unfortunately it is not legal here in Texas, US or at least not the surrounding counties/municipalities of Austin. I am not for sure about other US counties and states but here they call that "exhibition of acceleration" and it cab be some where around a $100 ticket/fine I think. Maybe someone in the area of Austin, TX who has gotten one of these can elaborate. I've never had one these tickets myself but I got a buddy who's quite a few years older than me who likes to reminisce about his red IROC Camaro that he had in the late 80's. Evidently, he racked up three tickets for "exhibition of acceleration" in a single year before the local county judge threatened to suspend his license back in the 80's.
