Very strange thing happened
Today, after getting home from about a 20 mile trip, I revved up the egine then turned it off, as I usually do. I got out to get somethign from the trunk, but noticed that something was running in the engine. I popped the hood, and looked, but the engine was off. It sounded like the intake was sucking air, or something. It was coming right from that area too, like underneath the battery/intake. I left the hood open, thinking maybe it was an overheating thing, as it was 92 here today and I drive a BB. But it persisted, so I turned the car back on, then right back off. Whatever it was, stopped, and the car turned off like normal.
I've never had this happen before. Any ideas?!

I never questioned it... always knew it was the fan for some reason.
BUT, I have been freaked out by it because of other people. I got to work and was there for about 5 or 10 minutes when one of my bosses walks in and tells me my car is running. I was like "wtf... how could I have forgotten..." so I immediately grab my pocket to feel for keys, and sure enough, they're in there. Took me a sec to figure out what was going on lol.

yeah this was odd the first time it happened to me too. It seems to have at least two different speed/intensity settings for the fan. I just figured it is what it is and let it run. Typically ***** itself down in a couple minutes.
Does anyone know if this ever runs while your car is actually running, or is it only for when it is actually shut off?

Easy, if you're not aware of it. It only happens on cars with electric cooling fans, not belt-driven fans. And not even on all electric fans.
My wife used to have an '86 auto Accord, which did not do this. I had an '87 Accord, which did.
No matter how many times I explained that it was just the cooling fan, she'd panic if she went into the garage and the cooling fan on mine was running.
As Kersh says, when it happens let it go. Defeating it interferes with cool-down and is a bad thing.

Maybe I'm expecting to too much.
