Exclamation Vibration when in gear, Please Help

My fiance's 8 car is an '05 auto. when in park or neutral it's fine, but when you put it in reverse or drive, there's a rough idle and vibration from the engine. having our mechanic check it out tomorrow, any help from you guys would be great. thanks

Or it could be a bad motor mount.

At idle, the rotors are spinning relatively slowly so may vibrate a bit. Mine does at 1000 rpm but if I apply a little right foot it goes away.

Same symptom I had with my 04'

I had exactly the same symptom with my 2004, especially when it was first started and placed in gear to back it out of the garage to let it warm up.

On one morning I had my son start the car and place it in gear while I popped the hood and looked under the hood. The engine was wobbling something fierce. I took it to the dealer with the TSB I found in one of the forum listings printed out that referred to the motor mount replacement.

They replaced the motor mounts and no more rough idle, a huge difference...

Hope this helps

yeah u can't tell it when driving down the road, but when u take it out of park and put it in R or D it starts to vibrate real rough, put it back in park or neutral and it goes away. i had her take it by our mechanic today and he popped the hood and saw the exact thing you just mentioned. said it was wobbling like crazy. he's doing the next oil change and service on it tomorrow and already mentioned checking the motor mounts. what is the TSB?

I've gone through three sets in my '05 AT already. Within 50,000 miles.

its an '05 so its probably still under warranty. Let the dealer take care of it...

All 2004-2008 RX-8 Core warranties were extended until 100,000 miles by Mazda in order to increase consumer confidence.

Merry Christmas!

There's a thread in the FAQ section regarding it.

Are the motor mounts counted as part of the 'Core'?

It doesn't sound like it. I could be wrong though. Not trying to shoot him down, but don't get his hopes up if it won't count.

i'll check on that 100,000 mile core warranty, would it matter if we are the 2nd owners? also, my mechanic said that you can just replace they motor mounts or do the mounts and new brackets, anyone have any advice on if just the mounts are fine or if you need to go ahead and do the brackets as well? thanks

I just test drove a used '04 AT RX-8. Gorgeous yellow w/black leather interior. But while test driving it, whenever we stopped at a traffic light, it felt like I was in a massage chair - it was vibrating like crazy. Sounds like the problem may be easy to fix. If outside of warranty, how much would this cost to fix?
