Warm ups?

I dont have a rx8 yet but thinking about getting one. I have a 93 rx7 and it requires long *** warm ups on every cold start. Do rx8's require the same thing? I need something like my old Accord. you start it up and just go and not have problem for the rest of car's life. And another question. How are these cars on snow? Thanks a lot

Question 1) If you start it up cold, you wont be able to go into higher rpms (and you shouldn't no matter what kind of car). I have started my car up cold, and driven it right after no problems...I just dont take it into the higher rpms. You just can't shut the car off cold (No starting it, pulling out of garage, and shutting it off).

Question 2) I've had great luck in winter driving.

1) Keep it under 4,000 till the temp needle is in the middle, which takes only a few minutes.
2) on OEM tires REAL BAD / on winter tires great.

Yes you have to warm up the RX-8 but its not so bad. Just depends on where you live.

I dont drive in the snow and would not recomend it in this car. Way too many people have tryed and failed. So Dont do it bro.

I baby all my cars.

Not enough miles on mine to definitively say short warm up is safe/unsafe. I keep it under 6k until temp is up.
There are a bunch of threads about winter driving. Summary - stock tires are summer tires. Get winter tires (best wrapped around a beater) or suffer the consequences.

Honestly, I've never driven my car any different than any other car I've owned(with the exception of revving it to 8-9k at least a few times a week) and I've never had any problems. If you drive it too hard before it's ready, it'll let you know. Just don't start it up, back down your driveway, and turn it off.

ppl have tried driving on very light snow on the stock tires and crashed after 100 feet, they're rubbish no matter how you look at them.

Temp needle just getting to the middle doesn't mean the engine's warm. That just means the coolant is warm. I give it another 5 minutes at normal operating temp, before revving above 4k, to allow all the metal to heat soak.

Since you have an RX-7, apply the same warm up procedures to the 8. In regards to this topic, a rotary is a rotary, imo.

what's wrong with starting the car, and then shutting it off a few seconds later?

^^ it'll flood rink, not all the time, but it's a possibility

as for the comment of waiting for the engine metal to warm up after the coolant reaches operating temperature, that's a load of BS. Your metal has to already be warmed to that temperature (and probably quite a bit hotter) for your coolant to get to that point since the heat is moving thru the metal into the coolant.

No.

I need something like my old Accord. you start it up and just go and not have problem for the rest of car's life.
Then go buy a new Accord.

And another question. How are these cars on snow? Thanks a lot
They're terrific in snow if 1) you know how to drive in snow, and 2) you get snow tires for the winter.

I got my car just this summer. I just start the car and go. From time to time, I'll turn the engine off after a few seconds, and it starts up the next time I use it. Mine is a 2006, so I figure they fixed most of the flooding issues.

Maybe during the winter time, I'll probably flood the car. Also, I plan on getting winter tires and try driving in the snow when it hits my area, wish me luck.

The thing is that i wanna get a daily driver. I loved my Accord but it wasn't nice enough to take out ladies and stuff. FD is nice but it requires too much maintenance. dont get me wrong i love every second of owning this car. So im keeping my FD. I was gonna get a rx8 before the winter comes and i wanted to make sure it's not another exotic car . we'll see what happens.

it's definitely an easier car to dd than the FD. i personally don't do any real maintanence to the car. change oil every 2500 miles, check oil level whenever i have time, i consider turning off the engine fine when the temp needle is near the middle. never flooded. only thing i really do is.. wash my car a lot. warm up, just drive lightly till the needle is near the middle (it'll never be on the middle). then go have fun.

1) The only thing i've heard is the same as everyone else is saying...and that being that you shouldn't take it above 3-4K until its warm, and that you never wanna shut it down cold. It only takes about 3-4 minutes of driving (assuming your moving) to get it up to warm.

2) Plain and simple their performance summer tires. You wouldn't try and mow your lawn with a weedeater, would you?

Can it be done? Yea. Would you still do it? No answer.

Guess it's better than Camry Lover or maybe Corrola lover.

I could see Porsche Lover, 8 Lover, even Stang lover or better Hummer Lover but Accord? Thats like saying refrigerator lover, cook pot lover or gasoline pump lover.
