Warning! Do not buy this car!

I have loved my 8 from the minute I got her - up until that is it got hot. My a/c like many others does not work. It has been it the shop 5 times. Not only does it not blow cold air it blowS HOT engine compartment air at all times. 130+ degree air blowing on you on a 100 degree day does not feel good. Mazda does not have the parts to fix my car nor do they beleive they will have it anytime in the near future. They also do not believe the parts that they say we must wait on will fix it. So, I am paying for a car that has no air in the middle of summer. Mazda does not care. They refuse to do anything to fix this situation. I want to hire a lawyer to handle it but they don't see having no air as a problem. SO - BUYER BEWARE! Mazda customer service is deplorable. This car has a lot going for it but it's got Mazda going against it. AND THEY DON'T CARE!

You may have gotten a lemon, but what you're seeing is not typical of the RX-8.

So to claim people shouldn't buy this car based on what you've seen is not really a valid point.

I dare say that you will not find a single model of car out there that hasn't had one or two black sheep.

Unhappy

I have to agree with jham 100% just because you had a bad experiecedoesnt mean it's a bad car. I live in Florida and my air runs cold as any could be. I had a chevy malibu that had a known defect that would cause my air to go out on 100 degree days and there was no fix ether. I took it to the shop on several occasions and they replaced the whole unit even but the problem went on.
Sorry for your misfourtune but don't diss them all.

Besides, most people check out the car they buy before they drive it off the lot. I'm sure Mazda will work something out to fix this problem... Unless you are being unreasonable and cussing them out or something, I don't see why they wouldn't want to fix it.

Getting a lawyer will not help and if it do you will just pay tons of cash to have your AC to be fixed. Called the service manager? or take you 8 to a nother Mazda dealer.

You may also want to see if anything falls under your state's lemon law. If you handle it properly, you may also find that if you complain enough to the right people (but in a nice way), they may take care of your problem just to make you go away. A lawyer should always be the last resort. Taking on Mazda would ultimately require you to pay a container greater than the cost of your car. Now, if someone were scalded as a result of the 130 degree air conditioning, you would have lawyers beating a path to your door.

The guy just needed to vent, so there's no need to defend the rx8. I feel for ya man. My a/c is ok, but far from as cool as it should be, but after readin this, I will never complain about it ever again. Some people get lucky and have ice cold a/c, some people get decent a/c, some get bad a/c, and in this guys case, they get no a/c. It's unfortunate, but part of life. I know if I were in your situation I'd be very upset at the car and mazda. It's a natural reaction. When you shell out this kind of money, and get this unlucky, and then add a dealer who does not know how to fix it, who else can you blame. Those of us who have had little to no problems with our a/c or anything else for that matter need to step back and be thankful, because there are many rx8 owners out there suffering. Good luck man!!

Actually he makes a very VALID and reasonable point. Mazda refusing to service his car, and/or giving him the run-around would get me thinking twice about buying an RX8.

Unfortunately, I was also in a similar situation when I had a radio glitch that short circuited the entire radio/AC panel and prevented me from turning on the AC. In the 3 attempts it took them to fix the problem, my car would reach temperatures of 130+ degrees on some days, not to mention the heat the RX8 already generates.

Anyways, I would call Mazda Corporation and see if you can get through to someone. Also, Go back to the dealership and see if you can do some leaning. IF they are just jerking you around, by all means get a lawyer and proceed with filing a lemon application. I remember my parents once bought a cadillac a few years ago and they just had a multitude of problems that could not be fixed by the dealership as often as they worked on it. They even wanted to take apart the ENTIRE engine and put in a new one--haha. My parents got a lawyer, filed for a lemon, GM got scared and tried to work out a deal. However, my parents didn't want to settle on anything less than a new car. GM caved in one day before the arbitration hearing.

It shouldn't even cost that much for a lawyer since it's mostly just paper work and usually they, the auto manufacturers, cave in before it ends up in court.

There is a Service Message out for the A/C control module. My a/c system cycled to quickly resulting in the a/c only blowing cold for small amounts of time, had the new module installed and the a/c is FROSTY! Check Rosenthal Mazda's site for the list of TSB's on this subject.

While I wouldn't go so far as to say don't buy the car, I would say go to a different service place. Mine's having the A/C issue too- after three tries, they FINALLY admitted something was wrong and my new amplifier is on back order, like everyone elses. Now, if they'd just fix my oil light problem, everything would be good.

a guy here in jacksonville bought a mustang and the dealer would not fix the car and kept giving him the run around .so after several atempts he put the car on a trailor and made a billboard with lemons on it and explained his case against the ford dealership .he then parked the car across the street from the dealership .after 3 days the dealership was happy to exchange his car for a new one and declaired it a lemon.drastic times call for drastic measures.

Unfortunately I would have to say that Mazda dealers are not exactly known for being particularly good when it comes to service and support of their vehicles. This post is just another example of how they obtained that reputation.

Same problem. I needed a new amplifier to fix the problem. The part was difficult to get, but the job eventually was completed. These issues are expected with a new model line....

I think we have gotten them convinced that they are going to be giving us another 8 for the weekend rather than some smokey junk rental car though. So that's some consolation. Wonder if they a/c works in that one.
I'm quoting from your posting from early May. The dealer already replaced the a/c amp. And, they already had your dashboard out?

Since there is no setting of the hvac system which would cause air to be drawn in from the engine compartment, in order to get 130 degrees air blowing from the vents, you would have to be running the heat. I would say that when the dealer had your dash apart they messed up the dampers so the air is always being drawn across the heater core.

BTW, always check the heat ****. One of my buddies upon discovering the manual hvac always cranks it up to full just before he leaves the car.

Can you be specific about the "Mazda doesn't care" comment? Just who are we talking about? MNAO or a local dealer? I suspect it's a crappy dealer in which case a visit to a different dealership should solve the problem. My suggestion would be to cool down yourself first, then search this site for informatrion on air conditioning issues and armed with the resulting information, contact a different dealer and try to speak to someone about what your car is doing and what you've learned from your fellow 8 owners, and see if this new place will get you and your car feeling better about life.
