Warranty?
Ok I just purchased my used 04 rx8 about a month ago at a suzuki dealership and purchased an extended warranty with it also. My question is can i just call and take it to any mazda dealership to have it worked on, and have everything covered? or should i just take it to the suzuki place *not what i want to do since this is not a regular piston motor* I have never bought a used car before always new or the same car make as the dealership. can anyone help me here.
( I have a plugged cat or bad coil pack so i need it worked on)

wassup,
Your experience depends on a number of variables, the most important is the type of policy you purchased and the level of coverage.
In general, most extended warranty companies allow you take the vehicle to a repair facility of your choice. Since your car is an 04, you may have some factory warranty left and that will always take priority over the extended policy. The important thing about this fact is that if the car is under factory warranty you must go to a Mazda dealer for warranty repair.
Assume you are out of warranty and the extended warranty takes over: Once the dealer has diagnosed your vehicle they will call the warranty company to confirm the repair is covered. Very few extended warranties are bumper to bumper, so the dealer must get approval first before repairing the vehicle.
The dealer may also require your approval for a diagnostic fee in the event the warranty company denies the claim and you decide not to have the repar done. This covers thier time for diagnosing your vehicle.
If the repair is covered, the dealer will perform the repairs, but will not release your vehicle without payment. Some warranty companies will give the dealer a credit card over the phone.
In any case, I recommend you do the following now so you are educated before a repair is necessary.
1. Call your local mazda dealer and have them run your VIN to find out exactly when your factory warranty runs out.
2. Read your extended policy carefully and look for the following:
- Level of coverage
- Deductible if any
- Does it provide rental or other reimbursements i.e hotel etc.
- restrictions on authorized repair facilities
3. Establish a relationship with your local dealer. They can be a lot of help to you when you need them. (assuming your local dealer is a good one)
Enjoy your new ride!!

It depends on the warranty that you bought. Some of those you buy only allow you to take it back to that dealership or any dealership with the same brand as where you bought it (Suzuki). You should have some factory warranty left though. I would find out the details on that extra warranty that you bought. If it won't serve your purpose, cancel it. You need to cancel it as soon as possible so you get all of your money back. It is prorated, so the longer you wait, the less you will get back. If you still want the extra coverage, check with you local Mazda dealer for a better Mazda backed warranty.
You will also **** off the finance manager that wrote your contract. They get a commission off of it. When you cancel it, he will get charged back for what he was paid. They love it when that happens. If you go into cancel it, they WILL try to talk you out of doing it. So, stand your ground. Also stay on top of it to make sure that it gets cancelled. Some will not do it. They will act like they are going to do it. And everytime you go in, they will act like it is not their fault (which in SOME cases it may not be). Dishonest ones will not cancel it because they do not want to lose that money.
