Warranty Engine Replacement
#26
No there isn't. There is a law that generally requires mechanics to turn over the part replaced to the customer if you ask. The only exception I know of is if the part will be returned as a core. In that case you are still given the right to inspect it.

the warranty parts are actually owned by Mazda, and thus you do not get to keep them.
hardly anyone asks for their old parts back...

i got an 05 with 71k on it. took it to the dealership 2 weeks ago for a compression test because i have noticeable loss of power, excessive engine vibration, hard hot starts. test results rotor 1- 6.1, 6.6, 6.2 at 263rpm rotor 2- 7.2, 7.2, 7.3 at 263 rpm. states in my test 8.5 is standard and 6.9 is the min. i had the dealer look into the warranty and getting my engine replaced. he called me back a few days later saying mazda sent him an email saying im a couple of weeks past the end of my warranty. does this sound right to you guys? i purchased an extended warranty with my car which is good for a couple thousand more miles and the dealer is working on a claim with them right now. they did charge me for the test and a couple hrs of labor to check out the problems im having with the car... any thoughts?

Yes, you could easily be past the factory warranty, but the dealer may not have known about your extended warranty. I don't see anything odd there. Your extended warranty should cover the extra charges, but it all depends on the fine print of what is covered and what isn't. It's hard to exactly specify what you will have to pay out of pocket on an independent warranty.

my seals, rotors, rotor housing, and ecc shaft are all covered. my deductible is only $100. They are sending an adjuster to come watch another compression test on my car to make sure the test was done right i guess and then i hopefully i will getting another engine. the original engine was replaced at 25k, i bought it with 38k. i do have an ap midpipe and bhr ignition kit that i hope they dont hassle me about, the dealer hasn't said anything to me about it yet in a negative way, but he did say that the midpipe will cause the tester to read lower compression because it allows the exhaust to escape from the engine quicker

Hey fellas, I'm a new member of the club, I have a question for yall about the engine warranty on my 04 Rx8. The engine was replaced on July 9, 2012 it had 80,029 miles . It now has 143,000 and I hate to say it but I have low compression. Its running awful. Changed coil packs, spark plugs, and wires. Still nothing. Does the Engine fall under warranty still its supposedly 8 years or 100,000 miles right??

Thanks.... I do have all paperwork. Invoices, etc. From when they replaced the engine. When I purchased the vehicle it was in the glove box. I'm going to give the Mazda dealer a call later see what they say, keeping my fingers crossed..

The warranty is that your car has a working engine for the first 8 years or 100k miles from the date of sale. It's not 8 years on every engine they put in. Sorry man, way out of warranty. The replacement engine warranty is 1 year / 12k miles IIRC.
