Warranty Info - Extended

I did. Yes, I'm a freak about that kind of stuff :D And I think I paid something like $3400 for the highest amount of coverage. I don't have the numbers off the top of my head, but I'll check when I get home.

edit: Ok so I was able to check out my papers. I got MEPP Total Care for $3149 ($100 deductible), 84 months, 100K miles. I wouldn't have gotten it, my my dad drilled into my head that it's better safe than sorry

I"m thinking of buying the extended warranty also. My dealer gave me a quote, not sure what is it off top of my head, said he'd honor the price until end of this year. I'm averaging about 2000-2500 miles on my car a month, so my original warranly will expire well before 48 months.

Ivyrose - wow! I knew I got a good deal on my car, now I know I got a better deal on the extended warranty. I got the Total Car MEPP for 100k for under $2k. The broker who found the car for me couldn't believe the low price of the warranty. He couldn't come close to matching it.

I purchased the extended warranty as well; considering that the long term reliability of the renesis and component parts has yet to be seen, I decided that it was a prudent idea. 7 years or 100,000 miles under the Preferred Care Plan (the best one offered) for $2400. The only drawback to this extended warranty is that I need to be careful with whatever mods I do, if I want the warranty to be honored.

I passed up on on the extended warranty, but ended up getting upgraded to a $100 deductable 7 Year 100k mile add on powertrain warranty for only $40 per year. Not sure if it's any good, but it was so cheap. I just took it. I'm gonna end up trading in my rx8 for a bettermodel in a few years before mazda warranty wears off, so I have no idea why I even bothered getting it. For those of you who drive lots of miles, and plan on keeping car for a very long time, it's definitely not a bad choice to get it.

Even if you don't use the warranty it's worth the piece of mind. I had a VW Quantum with a turbo diesel in '88. Bought the extended warranty and sure enough, engine blew at around 48k. Got a brand new engine and loaner car for two weeks. Then I sold it for top dollar.
DavisRx8 is right about the long term reliability of the new engine.

I purchased the Total Care 7 yrs/60k for $2339. Thought about only getting the Road Hazard, but after much thinking went with the whole deal. Being new to rotary and this car being also "first" gen Rx-8. Anything can go wrong along the way and usually first ones always have the most problems, hence all the little fixes that were available for the Rx-8. Better safe than never!

We bought an extended warranty from our Credit union since the car was used.
1200 for 100k 84 mo / 0 deduct + tire wear coverage?
Hope the fine print doesnt say it excludes non piston engines or somethin.

I didn't get it. Does anyone know if you can purchase it at this point in time? I've been driving so much my warranty is going to wear out really fast!! (my car is 15 months old and nearly 30K miles already!!!).

You can always get an extended warranty when your's wears out- I was worried about this too, so I did some research, and there are a ton of places that will offer you one after the fact. I didn't get one WITH the car because it ran concurrently with the mazda warranty, which seemed like a waste of money to me. You'll have to do some looking to find a reputable warranty place, but they're out there- I'm sure someone can chime in with ideas. If I run across any in the near future, I'll post them here.

Watch out for extended warranties...they aren't through mazda. If the company behind the extended warranty flops, you just spent 2k for absolutely nothing.
Happened to my sister a few months ago. Seven total warranty companies filed to bankrupcy. Seven!!!! About 200,000 people lost their extended warranties when that happened, including my sister who had two active claims...now she just paid full price for the new water pump and alternator, a 800 USD cost on top of her 2000 USD extended bogus warranty .
There are also lots of little "hidden" legal statements in my extended warranties (some mazda6 members found this out).
Statements like...
"All maintance must be done at a designed blah blah dealership or certified mechanic" (Aka you can't do your own maintance).
"No modifications to the vehicle allowed whatsoever or warranty is null and void." (Extended warranties don't fall under the mogg-mass act, so they can void them at a whim. So modders be ware, as even a catback can void the extended warranty).
Last but not least, extended warranties aren't extended. They are a SECOND warranty on top of the factory one. Aka a 6 yr 100k warranty, starts from the date you get it. So if the dealers try and rip you off by piling one on at the dealership (and charging you 3x as much as they actually cost), and then you trade in the car in 6months, and try to get the money back, you've already lost a % of the overall warranty, and thus with cancelation fees and what not, probably about 25% of your overall investment in the warranty.
I actually consider the things borderline scams =/.

Elara,
Thanks for the info. Let me know if you find anything. I keep thinking I should've bought the dumb thing when I bought the car, they would've just added it to the loan. Oh well. I've never really been one for extended warranties but then again I've never had a car with so many little things breaking. Knock on wood, my visors are still in one piece. or maybe that's NOT a good thing if they hold up and then break after the warranty !!! LOL
