In other words, if your budget is say 10k per year in total cost, then you could buy an expensive (overly IMHO, but I think VALUE is the most important factor) porsche and only drive it on the weekends, keep it for 4-5 years and sell it with 10-15k miles at a pretty hefty price. Total cost of ownership is x dollars. Or you could buy a less expensive RX-8, and drive it daily and sell it 4-5 years later with 150-200k miles for a pretty cheap price and the total cost is still x dollars. To me, the 8 buyer is much better off. A little less performance but much more time in the car is my ticket.
I completely agree... these cars aren't collectors items. I drive it year round, snow, ice and all-- life it too short to drive boring cars! I figure as long as I keep it well maintained (oil changes every 2.5k), it should run forever anyway.

even the newer ferraris will hold up to daily driving well. Ferrari CEO insisted that a major design principle of the Modena was to have much more maintainability than a 355.

Sure maintenance is a lot more expensive than other cars but (1) that person is driving a ferrari, and (2) that person bought a ferrari.

50,000 miles averaging say 18 MPG equates to 2777 gallons of fuel at $2.50 a gallon comes to $6,944.44 in gas in 1 year. HOLY ISH.

If I drove that much I wouldn't have got rid of my 32MPG Honda...

Shocking...

As I was reading this, I was wondering why he hasn't responded? He is probably putting another 1k on his RX-8 since the last post!

I very much doubt he was paying!

Luckily a project at my furthest flung customer has come to a halt, otherwise I'd have cracked 50k in a year too. As it is, I've done 6500 in under two months.

To whoever suggested doing a long commute in a cheap runaround... nope! You've obviously never tried it, drives you nuts. Worth having a nice car -just- to do that in if you ask me.

Lambert,
If I remember correctly, you live in the Cullman area. You better answer these folks, or I'll have to come over & find you.

But of course, you don't spend much time at home, obviously....

LMAO, i have 11,200 on my car and im at 11 months. I entertain myself with keeping with the miles, i figure what the hell maybe ill trade it in. But this guy has obviously no chance of doing that, in 4 years he'll have 200k. Well if you read this give us a heads up if you had anything wrong with the engine!
