Water Leaking Into Car
Hello,
I've got an 08, AT, (actually my wifes). I keep getting water on the floors?? First I thought it was from driving through deep puddles, but now ive noticed it when Its just rained and the car hasnt been driven.
I mean alot of water on the floors, I cannot see any signs of it dripping in anywhere however? anyone else?

I've had water leak into the passenger side once. There was a large puddle on the passenger floor, but not the driver's side. Not sure why, but the only thing I can think of that was different from other occasions was that I parked on a sloped driveway with the nose pointed downhill and it rained overnight. I've never had water leak into the car before that incident and I park it outside during work hours and it's rained many times here.
Are you parked on an incline when this happens?

youll have to remove the seats and take up the carpet for it to dry most likey. when you do that look for wire ports without a rubber stopper seal. also maybee the sunroof is a little open? could check that. Or my favorate posibility... she dropped a bottle of water and it rolled under the seat

i'ld say its an 08...its under warranty take it to your local dealer and have them fix it for you...could be a body seam, weatherstrip, sunroof, windshield or any of those. could even be as simple as one of the drain hoses on the sunroof not positioned correctly. Make sure you tell them that you park it on a flat driveway and it only seems to happen when it rains, so the can try to recreate the complaint. they'll spray it down with water and try to get it to leak so they can fix it for you. Just make sure they dry the carpet for you when they are done so there is no mildew or mold.

Thanks everyone,
it is under warranty, i just hate dealing w/ that kind of thing if its something simple, also i wanted to find out if it was a common issue in case the dealership told me some nonsense.
I'll try to find the windshield drains & see if they are clogged.
Its only got like 3500 miles, no windshiled replaced, no sunroof on this one.

I would not mess with it. Take it back to the dealer and have them find it and fix it. It is under warranty. The should have a guy that finds leaks for a living. If the don't, take it to another dealer.

Thats what i mean, I took it to congressional mazda, the guys there told me the water leak was because of the aftermarket speakers, that water normally runs through the doors, and drains out. That the warranty would not cover it because the speaker caused it.

He's as bad as Can
Yes, it is normal but I don't see how after-market speakers could cause a problem. I would ask the dealer to take of the door panel and show you what's wrong.

If i recall, the stock speakers were sealed pretty tightly with some sticky stuff, to a plastic baffle. I assume that this seal is not tight anymore and thats what they mean, I'm definatly going to ask for a demonstration when i pick it up

Some cars (I'm not sure about the RX-8) have a "water barrier" sheet of film inside the door. I've heard of speaker installers cutting this barrier, and that this can cause leaks.

^ if thats the case, sucks to hear. maybe you can get whoever installed those speakers to pay the bill. if you did it, ah, sorry to hear that.
also, i recommend rosenthal/arlington mazda. they are a good dealership. i had my car in the other day, for an oil change and it was running a bit odd. they only charged me for an oil change, but my car runs fine now. they even called me today to check in and see how my car was doing. rosenthal is as non-bullshit a dealership as i've seen.

I have an 04 and its been to the dealer 5 times and they still cannot find how the water is coming in. My leak is also on the passengers side. I think there is a defect in manufacturing. Its at the dealer now i'll let you know how I make out. But if more people have this problem we should do something about it.

take off the interior door pannel and start hosing down the door from the outside. On my wife's car it was the new speakers, As mazda explained it, its intentional that water can go inside the doors but its supposed to drain out, however if someting, in my case the speakers, interfeer with thier bizzare water diverting system, the water comes in.
I would say methodically try to find the leak with a hose, one day the doors, one day the widshield, etc

water leak
My car has been in and out of the dealer. They finally found out what the problem was. They said it was a defective drain plug. I've had the car back for a month now and no leaks yet.
