water in oil
when checking my oil a couple of weeks ago, there was water in it . i was obviously scared as i know this is bad in a piston engine. i took it to my dealer who said it was ok and just `condensation`. they changed oil. can anyone enlighten me on what has happened , i am worried the dealer is not entirely telling me anything

Starting only one thread should suffice... As to your question, I believe it is only condensation and it is quite normal. A nice long drive should burn it off. If you do a search on "water" and "oil" it should bring up a few threads. Here are some to get you started:

I assume you mean you saw some grey colored matter on the dip stick. I would think anything esle would be a problem. I have seen this on only one car that was a 65 volks beetle that would get some build up on the oil filler cap in the winter due to short hops without heating it up. Hard to do when it is 25 below 0. I would keep a close eye on the level in the radiator bottle.
