Weird Sudden Torque Today...
#27
You know I kind of have a question that goes along with the topic of this thread. If I am in first and shifting to 2nd gear and floor it; I get a really loud sound from my air intake, and gradually the torque increases, but nothing too mind blowing.
Whats weird though is, I feel like the car goes faster if you slowly increase the throttle instead of literally pounding your foot to the floor. Otherwise I feel like the car just has a lag time and cant catch up to either how much air or gasoline is being put into the engine. If I just gradually put pressure down, I get a real sweet response in 2nd and it flies depending on the day/conditions lol.
Any one else experience this or think the same? A technical explanation would be awesome!!

Not qualified to remark on the technical aspect, but I believe it to be related to what you are asking of the ECU and a noticeable over richening of the AFR that it shifts to when it sees full throttle opening to prevent detonation under the inrush of air.
Incidentally, every car I have every owned has felt the same way. Just off the floor is crisper acceleration than pedal all the way down. Only exception is when MM's AP calibration adjusted the throttle pedal mapping, so that all the way down is actually peak power demand.

3 years ago i bought a yellow 8 that was very nice. but then i when to sunrige mazda who replace my engine to later say it needed a new cat, FOR $2730.0 canadion. SO i took it to the rx8 specialist in calgary, AB who remove it to fine it was gutted either buy the first owner I have no cobb or any thing els to stop the CEL from coming on and it never came on either? how can that be? i through if the cat was gutted it should have come on. any way to not look a dead horse in the mouth. THE CAR RUN LIKE A BAT OUT OF HELL, (very fast) TODAY 1 WHEN FROM 130KM in 4 gear TO 185KM IN 5.4SEC WITH THE SAME CAT THAT I WAS TOLD NEEDED REPLACEMENT. my question is what is stoping the cel from coming on.

Your post is very difficult to read.
RX-8 without a cat MAY not have the CEL trigger for having no cat. They might show the CEL immediately, they might never show it, they may shift back and forth.
And then if you get an AccessPORT, you can just shut it off and keep it from appearing.
And yes, having a gutted cat will prompt the dealer to tell you that you need a new one, to get within emissions regulations. And yes, having a gutted cat will give you a power increase, as the cat elements are restrictive to exhaust flow, and thus power.
