Weirdest thing just happened

I just dropped of my friend and was reversing out of his drve way (steep hill) and it was fine
then after my rear wheels dropped from the curb to the road started to hear grinding noises, I was like WTF????? Still kept hearing it. I turned of the engine, then turned it on then tried again and it was fine.
Then went to my house and took the car in my garage
I decided to reverse, too see if it did that again
I reversed, and it did that again it was grinding it sounded like the engine just blew up
then I hit the clutch put it in neutral, put it in R again and this time it was fine, and then tried again and it was fine.

Any idea what happened?

It was rainy outside, really wet road.

reverse doesn't always work, you can sometimes get stuck partially in gear. Best to shift into first, then back into reverse.

And if you think misshifting into reverse is weird, don't watch what these kids did.

thats what i do too. its better just to make sure. if your sloppy, it could also happen in first gear tho.

The reverse gear isn't synchronized so it is easy to think that you have it all the way in gear when, in fact, you don't.

That looks fake. A bundle of dynamite would not move that great a volume of water imo.

Regarding grinding: +1 reverse not fully engaged.
