Welcome my wife to the family......
As most of you know, I have been knocking on the door for a while, but was hesistant to pull the trigger on a (another) new car.
Well, tonight on my 'date' night with my beautiful wife, we were riding down the local drag, and a Grey RX8 goes by. Without prompting, she said, I really like those cars, and my I, go, yeah, they have really grown on me too.
Then, out of the blue, my wife says the sexiest thing in the world. I want to go take a test drive.
Beside myself, I flip the car, and we head to the dealership. We found two beautiful white (my favorite) GT's in the parking lot. Well, we look it over, and the wife just falls in love with the interior. I look at it, beside myself, with the attention to detail and thoughtfulness of placement of various components.
Then, we get the keys, and I (more experienced with a stick) drive first. To be honest, I am not real excited, because I have heard the stories of 'no power' in the cars.
Again, I turn out of the parking lot, and pull second, and the car just pulls great and very consistently, through the gears. I won't say it is as fast as my Evo, but it is alot more predictable, and a heck of alot more linear in the power band. The car feels so good, tight, great brakes, all the things you guys/gals have mentioned for sometime.
So, I pull off, and my wife drives. Now, keep in mind her favorite car to date was a great little Protege five door, when they first came out. She LOVED, I mean LOVEd that car so much, but with the kid (new born) it was too small, and she wanted something bigger.
Anyway, my wife, has the perma-grin, a look I cannot even generate during sex, after driving the car. She immediately wants to get the thing, but not wanting to sound too anxious, I told him I would be back monday.
Anyway, now for the really cool part. I start discussing our options, trade the Evo, sell my Honda ( I have a company car now ), and get the RX8 to sit at home for 'us' to drive for fun and for me to track/Autocross. She says 'hell no' I am going to trade my Jeep, and get the GT for ME to drive, you keep your Evo, because YOU WILL NEED SOMETHING to drive at the track, while I drive MY RX8.
I know I loved her for a reason. So, hopefully, I can get some good seat-time in the car soon, after we pick it up Monday.
PS, what are some good autocross suspension mods to get on the car? I was thinking of getting upgrading to some of the Shinka parts, but wanted to get some opinions from the board.

Now there's a smart lady. My husband suggested the 8, and after looking at Honda and Nissan, I test drove the 8. SOLD immediately, and we took it home that same night. Tell your wife she has excellent taste (but then, you already knew that, didn't you? )
Welcome to the club!

Don't listen to much of what the salesman says, they usually know less. On the fourm is where to get the good info on upkeep, break in and mods. As fas as suspension, sways are a good start, and the MAZDASPEED front and rear strut braces. Both of those are next in my list.
Again, welcome to the club, officially, since you have been lurking. :D
and it is good to hear someone that drives an EVO compliment our car, rather than shred it. Thanks for that.

Anyone who understands car, automotive performance, and the importance of balance would feel the same about the RX8. I bought the Evo, because it was the 'underdog', and to be honest, it has lost that. I want another true performer, which is underrated to take to the track, and prove people wrong with.
I talked to my wife, and I think we are going to sell the Evo, trade in her Jeep, and have only one car payment (for one year). The more I think about the potential of the car, the more siked I am. I just wonder how my "One Lap Partner" is going to take the news.
Here is my starters list for the car.
Upgrade brakes (Stop-tech or Brembo).
Custom valved shocks matched to 12K Front 10K rear springs. Whiteline swaybars,
Volk rims
roll bar
harnesses.
What is pitiful is that I think that is all it would take to make this machine a 'world class' corner carver.
As for power, not going to mod it. That way when I get the question about being under powered, I can answer, 'how underpowered did it look going by you!?'
Thoughts? I mean help me finalize my decision, because I have to admit, I LOVE the Evo, but I just want a new challenge.
Also, could folks post pics of modded Blue, Black or White cars?
Thanks again for all your repsonses, you guys are making the decision easier.

You actually want to trade in Honda AND your Evo for rx8??
WOW I would rather keep rx8 and Evo =]
two great cars
Honestly, I am so glad I chose rx8 over STi.
The car has great potential believe me, and it looks gorgeous!
I think we both have similar set of mind about the "underdog"
I truly believe Rx8 is a true underdog in this time of being.
Not only your wife will love the car, so will you
There may be some little dispute between you and your wife driving Rx8 =]
but hopefully you guy will enjoy it and live happily ever after.
As for the pictures, if you just go to Rx8 multimedia/ photo galleries
you can find tons of pictures about many things. Body kits, Rims, Turbos, and etc.

SilverEight, I have been ro RA with Nabil and Old Dragger, but at the time, they didn't know who I was. I have been lurking (posting here and there) for some time. A couple of those guys had promised me rides at the upcoming events, but I just couldn't wait anymore. I hd to take a ride of my own.
As for the deep pockets, I wish. I worked 65 hours last week, trying to save up some money for some track tires, and to catch up on some other things. I spend the money, but I work my butt off.
Thanks for the words of Wisdom guys / gals.

As for us we have not got our car yet because of the recall[ but she drives a new 8 loaner]
1. check when the car was made .. early is the total recall .. late is the simple fix.
2. my wife got the at she likes the car
3.ask about the extended warr. ask them for 100 over dealer cost
4.price ?? should be able to get 2-3000 of msrp. look on the internet, build your car take the sheet with you .
5.The dealer in FT Worth where we bought we negotiated a free tint on the car
6.They had several diff pakages alarm, paint protection, oil changes, interior protection
We have discount tires in our area , you can go ther to boy the road hazard, balance depending on the tire for around 140.00 for all 4 , covers rotate, bal. and road hazard
good luck you will like the car
