Well it finally happened...rear ended =/
I was off to the hospital today to get some volunteer work done for college. The parking garage was really full, I had to go up and down twice just to finally see a guy backing out. So I was sitting at a corner waiting for him to back out, and this elder lady was coming down the ramp into the corner and hit me.
I quickly got out, looked at it, and it's not too bad. Just a circle dent from the screw head on her license plate, and a bunch of scratches.
That was the easy part. I then asked her for her insurance number and she wouldn't give it to me. Just my luck. She kept saying "here's my phone number, you can get an estimate and call me, I'll pay in cash". I was like, how can I trust you? Just give me your insurance number, I won't call them up if you're going to eventually pay in cash, but I need it just in case. And she said that doesn't make sense . She was so freaked out by her insurance cost going up (and I'm pretty sure just one minor accident won't blow up her rate).
Then she went on to say how she's always been honest for 20 some years, blah blah blah. We kept arguing for a while, then I got impatient and just dialed 911. Then we went to security, she kept babbling about her fake side of the story while I just kept my cool. The damage is obvious, and her story didn't make any sense. The hospital cop to finally came to settle it, he got photos of the cars, copies of our IDs and insurance, and I'll be able to have to report tomorrow.
He also asked us what happened, and I told him what happened (was waiting for a guy to back out, came down the ramp and hit me despite having plenty of space). Then she said that I made up the thing about waiting for someone to back out, then also said I quickly slammed my brakes and she couldn't stop herself. So much for being honest, I think it was obvious enough that the dude was coming out of his spot, that's how I eventually parked there! And I was sitting there for at least 10 seconds as well, that's plenty of time to stop, jesus.
My mistakes:
1). Letting the guy who backed out go without asking him for contact info, it would of been nice having a witness.
2). Next time, if I don't get insurance info, I'm just calling the cops straight up. That was almost 2 hours of my morning wasted over a simple deal.
Anyway, here's a pic to make me feel better

When recently had my little parking lot crack up the first thing I did was get out of the car with my camera and took a picture of the scene and his license plate. The guy freaks and asked me if I was a lawyer.

Sorry to hear - Somehow with an 8 it just hurts more!
The way that Allstate Insurance works (don't know what you got but it will probably be about the same), you get a paper from your repair shop (or shops) that gives an estimate for damage repair - or they will send you to their own shop (you can argue that this is a very different type of car, and requires specialists such as your dealer) you bring the estimates to their inspector, they confirm the damage, check it against a computerized cost index for your area, and they issue you a check for the cost or repair, minus your deductable. (with Allstate it takes about a week and a half to arrive) and you go and cash it and get the car repaired. Your insurance company then goes to war with her company and they work out which one covers the damage. Just tell the truth, take pictures, hand them over to the insurance company - they are pretty good detectives and they can figure out what really happened. Your lying friend will just embarass herself. The check is made out to you and you do what you need to do with it. good luck

Yea, I know what you two are talking about, but it's a little more complicated than that. Yeah, her insurance is paying, but of course, only for what's necessary. And the Mazdaspeed rear bumper is a little confusing. I'm at school right now, I'll explain later.

To Winfree and Clavius:
it's basically confirmed that it's her fault, so that's not the issue. There was a 500 deductible, I'm covered completely (rental car for 30 days, etc). There was a police report, which the insurance company will look into, then eventually deal with her insurance company.
So I went to the shop and they said the bumper has to be replaced, so the total costs, with labor, paint, etc will be around $600. What I was wondering is if I could have them use the Mazdaspeed rear lip, and I would pay whatever extra amount was due out of my pocket.
That can't be the case, because I thought ordering the Mazdaspeed rear meant a mazdaspeed bumper AND the mazdaspeed underlip. But, it's only the underlip that attaches on to replace the stock underlip. So if I really wanted the MS underlip, it would just complicate things, and I wouldn't be paying like $100 extra, but pretty much the entire cost of the MS lip, so there wouldn't be much point in getting it.
Yeah, a little complicated, but thanks guys. They'll have to order the stock bumper first I guess, then I'll give it in for a couple days and it'll be good as new.

That sucks so bad. I feel your pain on that. I actually got rear ended in my car. That lady seemed to get upset about absolutely nothing at all. And then to make up a story. Ignorance is bliss. Hope you get it taken care of pretty quick.

I was also rear-ended about 7 months ago. I have been unable to repair it as I have been out of country. Anyway, according to a Mazda dealer, the bumper comes unpainted, and will need to be painted and blended in with the car. The reason why this makes me feel sick to the stomach, is that these paint blending jobs are massive and are never perfect. (2 inch scrape over rear wheel well = entire back quarter of vehicle repainted to "blend"... 20% of total car painted over).... So the choice is, leave the few marks on the bumper which are not very noticeable, or get the whole back of the vehicle and trunk and spoiler repainted and "blended in"... it's really not a good decision to have to make, but one that has to be made nonetheless....
