Well I did it.

I think a Legacy GT would be better. Superior AWD and that 2.5t makes easy power with Cobb Accessport. The mkI g35 has terrible interiors. But VQ is a good engine.
Oh yeah, there's no such thing as car accident. In fact police calls them car collision. Accident denotes a freak of nature devoid of human intervention. Unfortunately AWD doesn't prevent one from stopping. This is sadly a myth marketed as a safety fact by too many car mfg.

I'm not here to talk you out of your purchase, but want you to be aware that AWD will make you a more confident driver and in the cars abilities, stopping though is still the same factor across the board when compared to FF/FR/MR/AWD, slight variances if your late breaking into a turn. With your application your thinking you'll get better control with an AWD car? My perspective, you'll learn to respect the Advantages of an AWD car, realize alot more skill is required to manage a rwd car... late braking, then trail braking is required to keep up to speed with an awd/rwd when driving a FF car so you lose the minimum amount of speed drifting into the entrances...
Driving an AWD will allow you to manouver better, I recommend taking it on track days or autocross days to see were your new G35 limits are in an AWD slide. I'm sorry for the emotional torrent you've been thru man, I can't begin to empathize on that level. But i read into your trade in reason, it looks to be a good decision until you get your driving confidence back. If you have the free time, get a Bike endorsement, ride a bike during this coming summer.... it really changes the way you drive. ( I believe all licensed drivers should be required to learn to ride a motor cycle since the same road space is shared).... If you snowboard or ski, it's very comparative, you really have to plan ahead, and always have as many exit options when **** hits the fan.... The AWD will let you be more comfortable in a re-active level when 'just driving along' knowing you can turn and step on it if you need to get the car to come around the way you want it to.
Look forward to the 16x!

hummers? really? dude, the G35 has the ATTESSA awd system, if you think that's crap then the Skyline R-34, 33 are crap. Unlike Subaru or Volvo, there AWD is fulltime, the Attessa runs power to the rear wheels engaging the front if traction is lost, not sure about the G35, but if you wanted to go RWD only, you use to be able to pull the fuse to prevent the front tires from engaging....
3tons in a hummer? you think your going to stop faster then a FF civic that weights 2400lbs? Or are you just thinking plowing over the other car if you can't stop? I go to the mountains in my rx8 to snowboard with summer tires ,with the DSC off... I just don't overdrive it, and expect my front wheels not to lock due to ABS (which is annoying sometimes) so an exit path is always on the list.

G35 is very good looking, solid ride. Your reasoning for the transition sounds understandable. I commend you on the fact you didnt attempt to justify getting rid of the 8 by ******* it like most jackasses here who transition from the 8 to higher hp rides like Stang's, 350Z's/G35's and such. GL wit it.
