When i took a road trip i reset a and b before we started. i left b run up until we got back home for total miles and i used a for the miles between fillups. less math i had to do myself that way

For me I use the "B" to track miles when I'm out on the road for work. Then I know exactly how many miles to expense.
As far as your smack goes, you'll get that on Sunday!!

FREE ADVICE!
I can't believe there are still those people who aren't versed in the intricate application of dual-odometric science. When properly administered, the dual-odometric configuration provides common-logic calculations, matched only by those of a slide rule.
Some simple applications are:
1) Tire pressure. Set "A" to zero with the wheel turned to the left, and "B" to zero with the wheel turned to the right. Make a trip to anywhere...work...grocery store, parole officer....anywhere. At the completion of your trip, inspect your dual-odometric readout. If "A" is greater than "B", you have low air pressure in a right-side tire. Adversely, if "B" is greater than "A", there is a left-side tire low. To determine front or back, reset both to zero and back up for 32 yards.
2) Weight distribution. Set both to zero, pick up your mother, and travel great distances. In Houston, if a variation exists beyond acceptable tolerances (±5 miles between the two for every 100 miles driven), then a) your weight ratios have exceeded 60-40% distribution, or b) you left your mother in Buloxi.
3) Romantical Encounter Enhancer. Set either to to zero...tell your date it's the gas gauge and turn the engine off.

I leave A totally alone so that I can fulfil my ****-retentive requirement for the trip odometer to match the real odo exactly.
I use B to do the miles per tank math.
Seriously.
I do it on my bike too.
I need help.

when I used to run my own business I could have used that.
One for the "regular" trips. One for trips that I could deduct -- like trips to client sites, etc.
Now I work for somebody else.
Oh well.
