what color to get

"what's wrong with this one Turkish?

Oh nothing Tommy... it's tip top... I'm just not sure about the color."

So ****** quote aside, I'm trying to decide which color to get.

I've nailed it down to the copper red shinka color, velocity red, winning blue or phantom blue (haven't seen one yet).

I'm a practical person to the boot so my question is, which color is more practical to take care of of the ones I've mentioned.

VR is fastest. I do like the new copper red though.

To keep cleanest? Winning Blue, but I'd suggest you get the VR.

Go with the Phantom Blue I say. You'll be the coolest kid on the block because no one will have one in that color yet.

Well the copper red shinka too. Whoops.

not winning blue. there's too many cars like mine here already.

seriously though, winning blue is nice, and all the women refer to it as "that pretty blue car over there." ... but if you've got the $$$ get the shinka. so far i've only seen 1 shinka on the road in the 3 1/2 weeks i've had my car. i've seen 2-3 other blue ones about 5 black ones and too many red, silver, and gray ones to count.

Aesthetically, the shinka copper or the phantom blue. Both of them are both 1) the best looking and 2) the most rare. Velocity red is good looking, but you see a lot of them around, and its a pretty obvious color. I never cared for the winning blue. I like the phantom blue MUCH better. I'd have a tough time choosing between it and the copper.

I doubt there's much practical difference between them, as far as maintenance. The brighter velocity red and winning blue might show the dirt a little more, but I doubt it's a huge difference.

I have the velocity red and love it because it really looks different in bright sunshine with the gold mica flakes. Yeah, there are alot of them around but it looks great in red. I haven't seen the phantom blue but my second choice would be the new Shinka copper color.

I'd take the new galaxy gray if I had to do it all over again.

This is so subjective. I think the Winning Blue is generally the best color. I haven't seen the Copper Red or Phantom Blue in person (which is the only thing that matters), but I'd probably stick with WB. It looks good even when a bit dirty. It just looks good on this car. I dunno. It's flashy, but in an understated sort of way.

I've always had black cars because I'll go to the dealer, see it all polished up under the lights, and crap my pants. As soon as I start to drive it, it gets dirty and doesn't have that pop. Make sure you try and find people who have these colors so you can judge them in their real environment. That'd be my only advice.

black doesn't interest me for that very reason, too hard to keep clean and the spiderwebbing on the clearcoat is impossible to hide on such a dark color (and a black car in the sun is like a sauna), and although I LOVE the black cherry of the old shika, it has the same problem if not worse. the galaxy grey and titanium grey just don't do it for me, I want color, not lack thereof.

I hope I see a phantom blue soon to judge it.

See, I don't find it understated at all, I find it a bit garish. That's why I like the phantom blue better.

You make a good point, though, I haven't seen the new colors in person, I'm just going off the web site, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.

Blue wins. That's why they call it Winning Blue. Velocity Red might be faster, but blue will still find a way to win potentially by cutting brake lines or something like that.

So Winning Blue wins by cheating? That's not cool.

I like Velocity Red or Winning Metallic Blue. Under late or early morning light, the Red transitions to some very interesting hues. I haven't seen the Blue in low light conditions, but do think it looks rather striking. That said, any color you choose will be great because you just can't go wrong with an 8!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, you just crapped on 99% of the owners here. I guess you like the slower colors.

I just got back from making my mom take me to see my car being unloaded at the dealership. Not too terribly exciting. I was too nervous thinking that they might screw up and "injure" it unloading it to enjoy it. It came off just fine. Anyways, they have a Phantom Blue RX-8 sitting on the lot right now. When the light hits it just right it looks pretty good, still not my color choice. However, they had another vehicle in the same color that wasn't all clean and shiny (kinda dirty and dusty from the rain) and it looks like crap. The multi-hued color doesn't reflect hardly at all. It just looks dull and plain. Just kinda looks like a flat off-teal color. I think it will be one of those hard to keep clean and looking nice colors.

I haven't seen Copper Red in person on an RX-8 yet so I couldn't tell you my opinion of that one.

On a side note, the Portland area got in some Shinkas for this weekend to be unloaded at the dealership. None of them are Copper red, though. I know for sure of a black one and a white one. None of them are at my dealership, though, so I can't take any pictures when I pick mine up.

RX-8 still looks great in red with red and black interior. mine is silver, which does a good job of showing the lines, but it's a little dull.

Saw a rare yellow yesterday, looked awesome but no longer available...

She's getting Winning Blue cause she's a winner, not a phantom.

Silver gives the '8 a refined look.
Red is for the wanabe racers
Blue is a popular Canadian beer (not very good)
