She has been parked for 3+ months now and it hasn't snowed here yet..
I missed her and decided to take her for a stretch. Next thing you know We went for a 300km trip and a nice hand wash and hand wax before going back to hibernation.. :-)
What a hell of a night. I needed to do some shopping and since the Galant has a bad crank position sensor, I took the RX-8. Just a half mile or so from my first destination, my coolant light came on. Okay, well, it probably just got low over time and needed to be topped off. Luckily I have a jug in the trunk.
A few seconds later, I start smelling antifreeze from the vents. Ah hell... I look down at my Ultragauge and the temperature is around 210 F. That's a bit high for the ambient temperature at the time but it would be normal for summer so I drive another block or so and pull into my destination. I popped the hood and saw coolant all over everything. At first, I thought it might just be water since it's been a very rainy day but then I saw a blown hose right at the top of the reservoir.
I needed time to think about what I should do, so I went into the store and looked but couldn't find what I went there for. Then I went by Subway and had a look at Google Maps while eating. There were no auto parts stores nearby, but there was a Home Depot about a 1/2 mile away. I didn't have anyone I could call at the time. I considered walking despite the rain, but the radar showed even worse storms were coming. Maybe I should have called a taxi, but given the short distance and that whatever I get the first time might not work, I decided to fill the thing up with coolant and drive it.
They didn't have that same kind of tubing, but I did find a 4" piece of copper tubing that fit pretty well. I bought that, some hose clamps, and a couple of tools and I made it work. I made a quick stop at the grocery store down the road since the dogs nor I had any food and then I drove home without further issue.
I'm a bit worried that it caused engine damage. The temperature gauge never went above around 215 F but if it lost enough coolant, it's not going to read properly anyway. At least there are no obvious signs that the engine is damaged so maybe I got lucky. I guess I'll be working on it more tomorrow.
You'll be fine as long as there was coolant in there..
I broke my serpentine belt on the highway at 120km pulled over after a minute or soo.
Then a month later one of the coolant hoses popped a big hole and car overheated..
After 2 months, another hose gave up and she over heated, at the point I had all the hoses replaced.. Keep in mind My car had about 240k kms on the original motor at the time and it ran another 48k kms before I scrapped the car due to low compression and too much rust..
I could have gotten lucky because of my habit of keeping an eye on gauges and the other on the mirrors lol..The moment I saw the needle move I turned the ignition off shifted the car in neutral and pulled over .. I took the car to the shop next day and my mechanic said these cars are not as fragile as people make them sound to be..
Did some hands on work on my car for the first time in my life. saw plenty of DIYs and youtube videos and thought id take a crack at installing my BHR coils and a fresh set of spark plugs. The difference in performance is immediately noticeable. I never knew the potential my car had tucked away. Heres a video of what resulted from it:
Was getting gas when the person next to me forgot to take the nozzle out of her car and drove off. Hose went taut, then made a loud snapped with the nozzle coming right at me. I dodged it, but it nailed the top of my Bleu in two places before skidding on top of my trunk. Total bummer. Estimated damage $2100. At least she had Allstate.
Good morning all, so I can't find a clear answer so I'm just going to ask. If I remove the bodies on the the rx8 will there be any holes underneath or are they all just stuck on???? Mainly want to do the trunk...

Have to wonder how stupid people are. I hold the gas nozzle for the entire duration of filling up. Did she just get back in her car while fueling? Pretty stupid reckless "mistake"
Got my brand new seibon trunk earlier this week and should have a new CF mazdaspeed spoiler here on monday And also bought a used replica mazdaspeed front bumper with the USDM license plate holder thingy as well (could possibly be OEM, but not banking on it, but that USDM bar thing was worth the $180 shipped price for me, so win either way)
*I'm probably going to clear coat them in a few weeks though as the car currently isn't finished yet anyway, so it's not a priority
