What to do if your 8 wont start!
My car did not start for 2 days until i called the local mazda dealer and they told me to punch the gas pedal all the way in. It is supposed to shut something off. Then after about 5 tries it started, but it was smoking white. The mechanic said that that was usual. Then after the car is started you should run it hard, but let it idle for 10 minutes.

Damn thing happened to me today - 1st time. I actually called roadside assistance because the car wouldn't start after a half an hour of trying. I actually had to take a battery out of one of my other cars to use as a jumper because the battery was getting low trying to start the 8 (the 8 was in the garage and I couldn't get another car close enough to jump start it)
Since the 8 is my toy, it was sitting for about a week when I tried to start it. It was flooded but I was worried it was something else since it didn't even try to catch the 1st time I tried to start it.
Well after about an hour of trying the deflood procedure it FINALLY started. Ran rough for a bit but then cleared itself out. So I took it on a four hour drive to have it totally clear its throat.
Runs fine now. I'm just gonna have to be more careful when shutting it down in the future. I was very bummed out to say the least because I didn't want to have my baby towed.
All is now right with the world

Yup my wife flooded my car last night...I never had a problem before with flooding. She drove it out of the garage and turned it off in the driveway, then later started it and drove it right back into the garage and turned it off. Two short moves did it in, plus it was cold this morning when I cranked it up. I started cranking with the pedal in to clear the chambers, then ran a pair of jumpers from my Ford Explorer to it so I would not drain the battery. Mazda Roadside picked it up and the dealer got it running this morning also.

The changes to the PCM programming help to -REDUCE- the chances of flooding, not eliminate it. You still have to use half a brain and operate the car properly.
Note that if you are really concerned with flooding, there are ports on the intake manifold you can run tubes to so you can inject a cc of oil to make flood recovery easy. The oil improves seal function so the engine clears itself out much quicker. If the spark plugs are soaked badly it may still not fire though.

Yep, mine flooded today for the second time. It flooded last year around the same time. Waiting for a tow. I love this car but I am starting to get irritated.
Update - talked to the dealership today. It wasn't flooded. The engine had no compression. So now I have to have the engine replaced at only 21,000 miles.
