My good friend, actually bought a velocity red 2006 6MT rx-8 due to my opinions when I had mine, hes still doing some searching before he posts so he doesnt get flamed.... He wants to do some exterior work, what do you guys think of the chrome gas cap? would you recommend he get the satin fuel door or the chrome? or none at all and leave it stock? keep in mind he has a velocity red.. I will relay this message to him as soon as i get some input. thanks guys

on red it looks pretty good... but then always keep the rims shiny.. or it looks off..... but if u change the cap outside.... i suggest the mazdaspeed chrome cap for the inside as well.

I'll assume you mean gas lid since a chrome gas cap doesn't make much sense.

This car has no chrome on it, so why add it on? It just looks out of place and ruins the appearance IMO.

If hes putting on a Veilside kit or something like that though, then the chrome gas lid won't matter then.

 

I would have to agree. Of all the things on this car to accentuate, why would you choose the fuel door?

Looks great on a modified Miata with roll bar, etc. Doesn't look good on an RX-8 IMHO. Don't get me wrong, I'm not necessarily opposed to purely visual mods but this is kind of a joke on an RX-8. If you're trying to look like a Daytona coup, don't get an 8.

 

Well, I put it on for the hell of it. Got it for cheap... but I have my OEM cap just in case I get tired of it. :p

 

I had one for a time, but since it's heavier than the OE lid, it kept loosening itself and rattling. I finally took it off went back to the original.

 

I'll agree with a few others and say it looks really out of place and ugly. Chrome accents in general are ok, but having the whole gas cap cover chromed is just pug fugly. I personally think chrome wheels, strakes, or gas cap cover look bad on the 8.

Well let me put is this way. I had one on my 3G and it was a b!tch every time I had to fill up when its 120!

 

it looks way too obvious unless the car is white or sunlight silver, in those cases it might be ok to have on there, but I've seen one on a red 8 and it looked really ugly, like some afterthought thrown on because there were a few bucks to spend, anyone who rices out an 8 will put the chrome on it

 

It looks horrible IMO and I'll even go so far as to say it's ricey. Unless you want to emulate the Pontiac Eclipse, skip it.

The satin... or chrome fuel door looks like crap... I own a Brilliant black 8, and ill be DAMNED if i'd pay and put one of those on my car nad completely **** up the look/flow of it.

Black looks solid/evil/sexy and then BOOM big circular shiny object in the middle in a weird place..... MEH I will agree that it is kinda Ricey, in the end its your car do what you want. But the less my RX8 is associated with the "kids" the better (even though im only 24 and can still act like a kid sometimes) heh

personally, i would go which ever theme you want, if you have a the chrome rims, then sure go with it. but if you dont, then no.

 

I got mine last week and have'nt gotten the chance to installed it. But when I do I think Im going to like it . My car color is Galaxy Grey so I feel it will look good and if it dose not , well just change it back.

 

mine came with one and I took it off and put the stock one back on. I'll sell you my chrome one for fifty bucks

 

IMO the fuel door is not supposed to stand out......so why make it?
